Well a while back I bought a set of 4x2 TRD tundra coils and shocks that were off an 04 extra cab. It was a good deal, $180 shipped and they had less than 4k on them.

Well today me and a friend swapped out the tundra top plates with my 3rd gen's plates and put them in. Lowered the truck back down, measured.. and started to cry. I got a whopping 1/4" lift on each side :-(

So with that said the OME 906's that a bought will be sitting in my garage a bit longer. The only plus to this situation is that the ride is 100 times better in the front. So at least it is not a total loss.

Maybe a top plate spacer and longer studs are in my future.

Disregard my rant, It turns out the TRD coils I got ended up being non-TRD so this explains the lack of lift. My appologies for the confusion.

 

Just out of curiosity, how much lift did you get with the 906s?

 

I havent put them in, Had I gotten the 1 to 1.5 inch lift I thought I was gonna get they would be in now.

My bad for getting the 4x2 coils and not the 4x4 ones in the front.

 

There isn't a human being on planet earth that can answer that question. I have PM'd every person on three different forums that has even mentioned the numbers nine-zero-six and none of them can tell me. I've been PM'ing vegaskurt relentlessly and today that mystery was going to be solved. Darn those 4x2 coils. (Sorry to hear the bad news vegaskurt, I am very pleased you like the ride though.)

All kidding aside, I suppose the difference between 4x2 and 4x4 Tundra front coils is about 1.5"? My understanding is the 4x4 coils with NO spacers should yield 1.75".

 

What am I missing here? Is there some reason why folks aren't getting the 3rd gen TRD lift right? How could you get the WRONG Tundra coils when the part #s are all over the place on Yotatech, specifically the thread on the TRD lift and on 4rnr.net under "suspension"? I'm not accusing, just asking.

 

My understanding is he got a good deal on used coils. He didn't use the top plate spacers and extended studs, so his lift would have been less than the "standard formula." I'm going a similar route--no spacers, no extended studs...results in slightly less lift.

 

I also was assuming that the 4x2 coils from an extra cab would yield at least an inch or so. I also bought the coils thinking they were the correct ones only to read a few threads later that they were not. Oh well.

So know its either top plates or order the correct coils. I wonder what the ride will be like with the 4x4 coils with the 4x2 shocks.

You paid nearly retail on incorrect used coils....There's a 209743672373 page thread about this setup..WITH part numbers/applications/color codes.

 

I paid far less than retail, 180 shipped for almost new shocks and coils is still cheap. Go ahead and flame for me not reading the entire 234234234234 page post. But I bought the setup a 2 months ago after getting a PM from bamachem saying that it did not matter if they were 2wd,4wd,ext cab, double cab etc... just as long as they were tundra trd.

Then I also read this "http://www.sonoransteel.com/Tundra_Coils.html" (number 1 google result for tundra trd lift) that says the same thing in the bright green paragraph.

 

Anyways, I'm not mad or pissed at anyone. I went wheelin yesterday and the ride was outstanding in the front. So I guess I should probably start looking into some top spacers.

 

Did you finally get the 906s in there too?
If so how much lift?

 

Once I figure out what spacer's I am gonna go with I will put the rear coils in.

I'll have a OME 906 thread going with all the details when I am done. My next wheelin trip is on the 22nd so I will have it done by then.

 

How much better is the ride with these coils? Softer or harder? If you are looking to sell them, I might be able to take them off your hands. I dont want hardly any lift since this is my DD and in stock form, it out flexs my Dads '91 which I put longer rear shocks and front LP bumpstops on. So it will wheel just fine for me with some 265/75's on there! Im just looking to get a better street ride. Sorry, long post.

If you're interested, I got 2.5" with the 906s and 1" with the 880s on my '02. Gives her just a little rake that is pretty cool. Just enuff to keep the 265/75s from rubbing.

 

2.5 from the 906? Were your stock coils sagging prior to putting them on? I got a tad more than 1.75 when I put the 906's on. The stock coils I had were not that old.

 

I didn't think they were sagging - they looked fine to me - flat level as far as I could tell (I had a '91 and put downey's on it to get rid of the sag - so I know what the sag is!). I figured that is the way it came from the factory. Check out the pics before (stock) and after (880/906/265.75). Sorry its parked on a slope, but hey, thats my driveway!

weird. i have 4x2 Tundra TRD coils as stated in the 2424242424242 page thread and i got 2.0" with a single top plate spacer. measured and compared it to steve and gapguy who bought the proper part numbers from toyota and we all had the same exact measurements when taking body lifts and fender flares into account.

 

Keep in mind that 02 was PRETTY DAMN LOW. I was disgusted when I parked the 02 next to my 91 --- I had bought a soccer mom rig without even knowing it!!! At least now it looks respectable.

 

Looks much better.
