'00 4Runner Tailgate window won't work

Morning all!

Was all packed up and ready to leave for the beach yesterday afternoon. When I got home from work I rolled dropped the rear tailgate window a few inches to keep things cooler. Loaded everything up...was rolling out the drive and had the AC on and tried to roll up the rear window. Nope...nothing...switch on the dash wasn't doing anything. Tried to bring it down with the remote and it went down just fine. I didn't have time to look at much but did look for fuses but didn't see any. Swapped all the luggage outta the 4Runner and into my g/fs Honda and we made the trip to the beach in her car.

So...any thoughts? If the window goes down with the remote I'd assume the more is ok. Did the switch on the dash go bad? Seems odds to me that it would just go south w/o any warning. What is the best way for me to get the window back up and if I need to, how do I get access to the window or the back gate panel off?

Thanks!

Hmm...I don't think so. If I accidentially hit the button would the front windows still roll down from the drive door switches? I know I did test the driver (and pretty sure the pass) front windows and they both worked.

So..that window lock button locks the tailgate window too?

I won't be back at the car till Wednesday so I can't test it. I know I did roll down the drive window...so it sounds like if the lock is on I shouldn't have been able to roll make any windows go down.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing. I had mine for 5 years until someone made a post on here about it and the first thing I did was try it out. If it will roll up or down in any fashin with the remote or the key trick then you can elimnate the motor/regulator. If nothing works trying to roll it back up then I'd check the window motor w/ a test lamp and go from there. Post up the results and we can try to walk you through it.

this is fairly common. The rear window kind of loses it's memory, so you have to get it back up all the way. Even though you think it is all the way up, it may be a 1/2 inch short.

When the window memory is disrupted you also shouldn't be able to engage the rear defrost or the rear wiper. If you can do those but still not make the back end window operate from the inside dash switch you may have a different issue.

As suggested, make the window go down, using the key switch on the back end-then go all the way up. This will reset the memory.

Let us know.....this is how everyone learns from one another.

Question for you guys... I am trying to make the rear window roll down on my 98 with my after market alarm, does anyone have the wiring info for the rear window? Otherwise i can just go in and test the wiring but was hoping someone had the wire colors
