Dynomax "hemi" super turbo
Yall ever use the "Hemi" super turbo from Walker Dynomax? Thats what I use on my Runner. Low throaty tone like the others, but not as loud. Cant hear it inside the cab with windows up. That works well for the WAF (wife acceptance factor). On the outside, its mellow and low but quiet toned at idle but not as quiet as stock, but as rpm goes up it resonates good around the 1500 to 2000 mark then gets quiet but with a hint of that special "something". Its longer than the standard super turbo. I think its # 11 something, something, something 47 in the Summit racing catalog. Super turbo is like 14" long, while the Hemi super turbo is around 20" long. Had it on My Grand Prix for about 3 years, then took it off and about 2 years ago put it on the Runner. I think its starting to crack at the rear seam though. I will get the same one again, but thinking about going to a 2.5" exhaust from the stock manifolds all the way back including a free flow cat. Thats what Tim @ DOA recommends.
Sorry, Summit # wlk-17747

Yeah, that is the muffler that I got for my exhaust. I really like it alot. The tone is great and is not obnoxiously loud and annoying. I got it from Summit (17747). Not too expensive and sounds great. But why is it called hemi and what does that mean/do to the muffler? Noise, etc? Any idea? Thanks! :beaver:

I read way back when in the early 90s in a hot rod mag that did a test on 5 or so mufflers that the Hemi was for large CID engines and for trucks. Free flowing but longer so they were actually quieter that a standard turbo or super turbo muffler. Thats why I got it in the first place. I wanted it on my 87 GP to give me better performance and a cooler sound but I wanted it almost as quiet as stock. I also have a 40 series flowmaster that is on the GP now, but alas, one of the GPs rods found a home in the middle of I-185 back in October. I dont have the guts to use it on the Runner. Too loud. WAF real low on that one.

I guess that is why Dynomax classifies it as a street sound and not sport sound. It is quiter, thus the term hemi....the pieces all fall in place now  :beaver:
