Sorry, did not see last pics. Your brush guard is really cool. Could you post a ballpark figure of cost of the work so far? Enjoy the trails . Keep up the great job. It will be a terrific ride after the mods are done, looks super now.

Thanks man. I lost count long ago on how much I have into it. I would guess around $7k. If I knew then what I know now I could do it much cheaper the second time around.

Yes, the learning curve always has a higher price. Yet, the experience hopefully will produce a better return on time/money invested. Yota looks real good. I have some pics of some friends rigs & items we made for them. I get them uploaded soon. Happy Trails.

Next step is modifying the trail gear bumper to fit with my bed bob. A quick test fit even with drilling new holes in the frame shows the bumper will stick out about 5" too far. So time to cut!

I had to cut 3" out of the mounting plates to bring the whole bumper closer to the truck. This will reduce the gap between the tail gate and the bumper by 3" and leave a 2" gap (the same as the gap on the sides where it wraps around the bed). I hated to have to cut this plate as it creates a possible weak point in the steel but the bumper just stuck out way too far from the bed.

I also had to take 6" out of the side guards so they would not protrude into my wheel wells. A lot of cutting points but it all went back together nicely. I took as many pics as I could for yall as I am the first one to attempt this as far as I know. I really like the TG bumper and it was useless after the bed bob so I had nothing to lose here by hacking it all up. Its just tacked up right now for a test fit.

Are you going to plate the weld area or add any bracing?

On the frame you mean? I'm going to use bolts to attach it. No plans for plating yet. I would like to but the bumper fits very tightly on the outside of the frame rails and its going to be a real bitch if I have to fit another 1/4" of steel between the two mounting plates (might have changed since i cut it up). I thought about at least welding in some bolt sleeves through the frame where the bumper attaches.

I have thought about a stronger crossmember on the end of the frame rails where I cut them off but Im not sure if that will do nything for the bumper.

It fits!

Cant even tell it was cut. The wonders of a sanding disc...

Bump I made a plate for the mounting bracket out of some 1/4" plate. Post pics in a sec. Good call!

Here are some pics of the plate I used to beef up the mounts. Burned it in on the highest setting so hopefully the penetration is good and everything is sturdy. The welds laid flat so I think its pretty good. Ill yank on it a couple times and test.

Flat tires scare me. I dont carry one on any of my trucks and I need to. But how to carry it?

Found this awesome design on another forum. I plan on making it this weekend. I love the angled design and the fact that you can flip it up and have the tire lay flat if needed so you can fit stuff underneath it for camping etc.

I have some 1.5" tube laying around I can use. Its only .065 wall so I hope its sturdy enough but we will see.

Wow lots of stuff to update.

New gas tank installed...check!
Spring hangers moved and shackle angle fixed...check!
Bumper shortened and reattached...check!

Finally back on the road.

And the pics of course.

What an awesome Build! Im in the very early stages of my SAS (just been acquiring parts) I have a couple questions.

As someone who also feels like they have read every SAS thread online - why did you go with 3 inch springs? I have read that 4 inch springs ride better and they drop more once they are broken in.

Did you have to modify your rear driveshaft at all or does it have enough travel?

I went with the 3" because I wanted to keep the build as low as possible and just trim fenders if I need more travel. I wanted to keep the lowest center of gravity possible. I knew I would be running 35's and the 3" springs fit the 35's the best. Even with the 3" springs the truck sits tall!

My rear DS is stock and no issues with it coming loose.
