im pretty sure this is gonna show up on the next page. thanks for flooding my page haha

the start

great spot to camp during the summer

ran into a few of these

wasnt too deep

playing with the camera

another water crossing

found a spot for my gf little sister and brother to play around in. we made to walls and had a snowball fight

now something i never ran into before. 4wd van with rear locker went to far off the side of the road and got stuck. i had to winch and pull them out

next was his buddy in a 4wd stock ram that wouldnt go into 4wd. so it was stuck in 2wd.

i just pulled it around instead of winching

when we drove out, he wanted to give me a 20 for helping them out. i turned it down

so i been chasing down this rumbling noise on part throttle but its decelerating as it passes 40mph. it also does it on decel at 70 down to 65 sometimes to 60. this happen before i did the elocker and oddly after i did the valve adjustment. rumbling sounded almost like a bad bearing. it was really odd and i dont know why i didnt just put it up in the air and see if i could get it do it.

anyways, last week i had a cowork aka master diagnostic tech go for a ride. he said it sounds alot like a bad u joint. so we dropped the shaft and messed with them. found that one of the ujoints was stiff and didnt move smoothly. so i order up a pair of ujoints. $100 later and smashing the crap out of my hand. the noise was still there. from the 1st tiime i heard the noise. i kept thinking it was the engine going or maybe it is the rear elocker *spent way to much time rebuilding it* after the u joints i started to get sad

today i throw it up in the air and to my relief it wasnt the engine and im pretty sure its not the rear diff. it sounds really loud at the driveshaft. i know toyota puts cardboard inside the shaft to help with noise. my guess so far is that the cardboard is coming apart causing the noise and in the air i can see the driveshaft vibrating pretty bad. now i need to find a driveshaft. i know adam on here is parting one out so i just got to wait for him to get back at me

whew long story.. but im crossing my fingers that this will get rid of the noise since its bugging the crap out of me and the wheeling trips cuz i dont need a break down

A guy came in to the shop and had the same problem. Changed his u joints and the same thing happened. Changed his drive shaft and pulf... Gone. Just my two cents.

We were guessing when the joints went out it caused the shaft to not turn true causing it to bend. That might be a theory. Haha

i know the other techs have seen this before where the cardboard inside comes apart causing this similar issue. i should see how much a new one from toyota would be and wonder if it would be better to have a driveline shop build me one

Wow, sorry bout the shaft but happy for ya that it's not a motor about to seize, eh? lol.

Good hunting it down, man!

I need to get at my mileage issues(200 miles on a 15.4 Gallon fill up last time !!!! )

I also have a weird noise on the freeway lately at 70mph or so.... It sounds like the motor is 'jake braking'(you know what that means?)... .I mean, it almost sounds like one of those crazy timed WRX's, instead of the nice moderately throaty medium pitch hummmmmmmmmm. More like, "Hum-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m" ... make sense? Then at 80-85 or so, I don't think it's there the same.... Under 70 or so, nothing there, either. REALLY bizarre! Weird thing is, I'm only hearing it on the 110 Frwy, coming out of San Pedro and then on the 91(the freeways are both like lil parking lots with lil speed bumps.... TERRIBLY PAVED! like a sidewalk that's coming up every 8 feet, ....make sense? ) I feel like this happened last trip to AZ and when I got to the San Bernadino Area/maybe sooner/ it went away.

Sorry, not the place to vent my mysterious woes, lol.... Just got me thinking.

the funny thing is. the noise i am getting sometimes sounds like j brakes as well. i kept thinking the air injection under the hood or egr was leaking or something. anyways if yours is only on certain freeways. it might just be the road the the tire combination causing the noise at certain speeds.

Let me know if you need the driveshaft. If the weekend works better for you, we can make arrangements.

I didn't know they had cardboard in them... Learn something new every day.
