Hey, some might disagree with me, but I figure, .... "How much are all these parts when we finally DO need them and, well, either can't find them quickly enough or actually have to buy a new one? Secondly, WHY THE HECK NOT? hahaha, oh yeah, I said that! lol

I can't see ANY down side to not only getting a 'bed full' of spare parts, ...but also stacking on a learning experience while you tear through. I'll check in if you have a question or two in regards to 'first things first?' or 'what's most important?', in case he decides, "yeah, that's enough, I gotta get rid of this, ...the wife is SNARLING AT ME!" hahaha.

Best wishes, Brian, and don't forget all the relays, fuses, ashtray, lighter, shifter arms and knobs, head rests, rear side panels, maybe the GAS TANK, since you said it's so rust free(?)... I wasn't kidding, you give me one day or two, that thing would be a SHELL! lol. Bring a Micrometer if you can find one, just to shine on the rotors, etc., if they're beyond specs.....things like that. If you can't take the motor, maybe the head and intakes? AC compressor, Steering pump......why limit it in any way, right? Either way, Brian, you could SELL THE STUFF, as long as it's working, or get cores out of some. Who knows, maybe this head is in better shape than yours, right? Just don't forget the hidden bolt in the oil valley, right below the dizzy gear/cam, if you decide to take the head. I can't see why not, unless it's cracked or really warped. Take a straight edge with you to be sure it's not REALLY warped, lol. Might even be fine, right?

I'm excited for ya, ....whatcha got to lose but time, right?

L8r t8r,

Mark

Hey Brian,

The only reason I'd take those(I know I mentioned them) is because you can get an Aisin Rebuild kit for cheap, and rebuild them in your spare time, so you have 'like new' replacements when you need them. You could even just replace them, now, on your rig, once you rebuild the masters and slave. I know they're not that expensive, but all together, if you go Aisin, ...they aint SUPER cheap, either. Might grab the throttle linkage and also the pedals springs. I've had a clutch pedal spring go on me,... sucked, lol.

You said you were going to rebuild, some time within the next couple years, right? Could be nice to have the spare plenum all cleaned up, spotless, painted like you want, etc, right? The rest??? It's up to you, and yes, I agree with MF, ...I wouldn't use a used Master or slave unless I'd rebuilt it. But the kit is MUCH cheaper than the brand new parts, know what I mean?

Be sure you bring plenty of plastic sheet and cardboard to line your rig, Brian, ...ok? Stuff can leak, as they say, lol. Don't forget PB Blaster or WD40, either. Rust-free or not, ...You are in PA, so some things just MIGHT give you issue coming off. Also, bring buckets to catch any fluids on things you'll remove.

First things first?

Grab all the sensors, relays, intakes(leave the TBody on), fuel rail with damper and FPR(you have to remove the EGR first), injectors, ECU, AC, Steering Pump, Alternator, AFM AND BOX, Air pipe and joint to TBody, Fan, Fan shroud, Radiator, charcoal canister, VSV's on Vavle cover, Valve cover, Head(only tackle this if you're able, but it'd be nice to build a head the way you like before you eventually do the motor(have it rebuilt or do it yourself), Grill, Bumpers, Light Dells, turn Signal housings, tailgate, rear window washer motor(heck, trade out the shells if this one's better, you're painting, anyhow!), shifters and knobs. .... The dash is a bit more work, but if you know how to yoink the gauge cluster, at least get that, ya know? Get the signal and washer levers and innards as well-it's usually sold as one unit-both sides(you can get a good price on those). Maybe the console is in good shape, and what about the buttons/switches for the rear window, window lock and washer? Spare tire and mounting apparatus? Tow hitch?

Then, if you have time, start tearing off the Rotor & hubs, masters and slave, tranny(if it's good and you feel you can tackle it, only), rear axle(or just take the rotors and hubs if you don't have room or the knowledge--- I think you could do it, but you'll need help to lift), drive shafts(if no major play), doors(Never know how bad you'll smash in a door down the road, and even if not, you could sell them). Brake proportioning valve...?

and if you're feeling really ambitious, you could pull the glass. windshields aren't horribly expensive, but if you don't have the money, a spare one never hurts to have around. That was some of the first stuff i pulled when I scrapped the '86. especially the rear slider. most glass shops have the windshield in stock, but getting that rear slider window is not so easy... just a thought and if you can get them, the front lockers. someone stole the hub locks from my old bronco II and they were a pain to find and replace.

Yeah, not sure on the windshield, ....THEY OFTEN break, even when Pro's are taking them out. If you do that, do it LAST, in case you splash the interior with glass slivers!lol. I got my windshield done in my driveway for 160$! Well worth the investment in a couple hours, calling around and then telling the most reputable place, "hey, they said they'd do it for 'this', and you're saying 'that' much?"..... it took 50$ off for me, cuz they matched it! lol. The new seals they use are SO MUCH better quality, too.

UPDATE, BRUDDA! lol.

Keep us updated on the progress, Brian. Anxious to see all the goodies. I'm assuming you dropped your truck off, yesterday, and that you'll be using another rig or your car to drag back the goodies from the donor?

PS> What truck is this donor? Can't seem to remember you pointing that out. Quite a few things different on an 86 than an 89, for example...just curious,....but either way, I'd still yank all that stuff, lol. EBAY

Let me know when and if you decide to sell the visor. I might want to take it off your hands, if shipping the thing isn't too expensive.

Yeah, I know, hate away. I like the way those things look!

I'll sell you the visor, or better yet, do you have anything you'd want to trade?

***UPDATE***

Truck is fixed, it was a frayed battery cable, but it was frayed underneath the plastic coating so i couldnt see it. And for the lights, (i regret saying this) the dimmer knob was turned all the way down so i had no gauge lights…… (idiot, yes i am).

lol, i've totally done the same thing with the dimmer switch. glad she's runnin again!!! i was doin the same thing with my '86, pullin off an '88 for parts, i eventually just bought the '88 and stripped the '86 for parts cus the '88 was in such better condition. most of the parts are interchangable, but not all, lol which is why i have that grill and the light assemblies. let me know when you're ready for those, i might be driving out that way in a few weeks to go see my dad and take my beast for a test drive after i rebuild the front end next week.

I did the same mod to my truck recently. I replaced the old battery-to-fusebox wire with a new 6ga one. I wouldn't have believed how much better it ran if I hadn't seen it!

I'll let you know about the visor. I don't think I have anything to trade, I don't have a lot of spare parts lying around. How much do you want for it? My only concern is that no matter how good a price you give me on it, shipping's gonna be a bear.

Hmmmmmmm, I seem to remember a guy in southern California, Palos Verdes I think it was,.... telling you to check the continuity, end to end, on the wires, ....to see 'if you have a frayed wire beneath the insulation', ...... REMEMBER THAT? hahahahahahahha.

RIGHT ON, Brian! Make SURE that you have the guy SHOW YOU how he tested for this, as I have a sneaking suspicion that, like me, you're much better at 'comprehension through visuals'. Maybe? Kinda sorta? hehehe.

Yeah, you'll probably have to sell a few of those parts, anyhow, as many of those parts are not interchangeable. HOWEVER, as was said, "MANY ARE!" WOOT, WOOT, touch the roof, tall guy! Hhahahaha.

Enjoy the learning experience of stripping that rig, and just remember, BE CAREFUL, wear safety glasses when needed, bring breaker bars, buckets, etc., etc., ..... You know, everything I've mentioned, lol.

L8r Brian, realllllllllllllllllly happy for ya!

Mark

I guess i'll take $25 + shipping for the visor. But shipping is gonna be nuts.
