I've been really thinking about getting on my paint once have the sas done. I've been actually thinking about going flat black with glossy sr5 stripes. I've done screen printing on t shirts before and the black on black looks really cool. I actually really like the turquoise on grey a lot too. Some one the 1st gen taco mas had the black with the turquoise I like that color scheme too. If u went with the bring green I think it's just a cop magnet really every one will see yr truck no matter where u go but I'd say every kid will love it haha
I really like the SR5 stripes too, gives it a little extra something. The gloss black/flat black combo you were talking about sounds cool! I think the Predator Green is out, it's too bright and not quite my taste, lol, trying to please the kids but pick a color I can live with too!

I like that color as well, my brother did his 85' pickup and canopy in that color (paint, not monstaliner). Monsta-liner has color chip samples that you can buy...I have all 40 color chips, I can send you the WW2 OD green if you want it (I have two of them) then you can see what it looks like and get a feel for the texture.

Monsta-liner was supposed to come out with 20-30 new colors in April, but I haven't heard any updates on a new release time.

I really like that color, didn't realize that the FJ's was called Voodoo blue. I'm really leaning toward this color!

That would look good...do you guys think that monstaliner's Smurfadelic Blue is a pretty close match to the Voodoo blue? Every pic I see of it looks a little different, they state on Monsta-liner website that it's difficult to get an accurate pic because of the difference in lighting inside and outdoors.

I appreciate it, I already ordered the color chip set, I always thought about doing a bedliner on mine, but now that I can get it in colors I definitely think that is the way I am going to go. I am a fan of the white paint though, but Im looking more for longevity than good paint, and I think ill achieve that with this liner. Did you ever get the walker exhaust for yours?

Those are my thoughts on it as well, I want something that's going to hold up and not worry about scratches etc. If you go to one of the heep forums (I know ) they have an 80 pg thread that's dedicated to Monsta-liner, it's helpful because they tell the method they used to apply it (spray on or rolled on) how many coats it took, how many gallons or quarts they used depending on the size of the project, as well as prep work they preformed. There are alot of questions answered, as well as pics posted of finished projects so you can get an idea of what the colors look like after they're applied. One guy that lives in Florida has had his coated for almost 3 years, and it sits outside year round, the finish still looks great, no signs of oxidation or fading.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f59/m...08/index2.html

I posted on Monsta-liner's facebook page to see if they had any updates on a release date for the new colors, he responded and told me to check back at the end of May.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet on the Walker exhaust, that will probably happen later this summer, but I definately plan to get it. My temporary muffler and straight pipe I put on let's in to much exhaust fumes with the window down and doesn't sound the best, but is better than the muffler I took off, lol.

yeah id say that muffler wasnt doing much. Ill look into that. Its supposed to rain here the next 6 days but as soon as that's over I plan on trying to take care of the rust spots. get the necessary stuff over so I can start with the upgrades.

Thanks! it's good to get some feedback from someone that's seen the finished product after its been applied and can attest to how well it holds up.

Nice, look forward to seeing you knock out some of the body work. I almost took my top off yesterday, but it's supposed to rain here as well.

I didn't get anything accomplished on my days off, I was feeling a little run down and just couldn't get motivated.

I'm thinking of painting my SR5 alloy wheels black, anyone know if there is any special prep work involved, or just your typical clean, primer, and paint? Any paint recommendations?

somebody told me the best way to do them is with the plastidip paint. Do it in black and then it wont come off. Might be worth looking into, but I cant confirm whether it is true or not.

The last wheels i painted with can paint did not hold up to the tire machine. It peeled the hard edges when i put the tire on and peeled with the balance machine hub.

That said, i think my failure was putting the paint on too thick and not letting it cure.

A quick shot with acrylic enamel with hardener added or a base clear would be better

I thought about using plastidip paint, I've never used it before and wasn't sure if it would hold up good or peel off easy.

Powder coating would probably be the best way to as far as durability and good looks, but I already have my tires mounted up, and don't really have that kind of money to spend, lol.

Thanks for the advice...wish I had a paint gun and compressor!

Plastidip works great and holds up better than you think. I did the wheels on my acura Integra over five years ago and they still look good, plus you can peel it off if you want to go back to original.
Prep with window cleaner, or plain soap and water. Easy to touch up too, it blends in easily.
I did four coats or two cans of dip for four wheels.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll give that a try, sounds like you had really good results, plus it's inexpensive which is a plus!

These don't look too bad, not sure im a fan of the chrome or stainless bead. I think I would want it just solid black.

Im thinking about plastidipping the stock sr5 wheels I have black, to put those new tires I picked up on. If I do it before you do, Ill let you know how it worked out.

Those look good, I'd probably do all black as well, my wheels aren't in the best shape, I have a little curb rash I want to cover/hide. I'm probably not going to get to mine right away, so I look forward to how yours turn out!

+1 for plastidip. But if it were me I'd just polish them up if they're alloy. No chips/scratches from offroading.

im trying to decide if I want to go to the stock sr5 wheels with those new tires I ordered or if I want to stay with what is on them. I like how much the wheels I have stick out but I like the look of the sr5 wheels too. Time will tell I guess I have until Monday to decide. I might plastidip my sr5 ones anyway. If I don't use them on the 4runner I might use them on the truck.

I painted my sr5 wheels. they weren't in the best shape, so spray painted them rather than plasti dipping them. To paint them, i just took some steel wool to them to clean and rough them up a bit. there are so many angles and crevices that steel wool worked the best. I could have definitely done more sanding, or got them blasted, but I was doing it cheap and with minimal effort. I then used some basic automotive filler primer. then sprayed it with a few coats of krylon gloss black. its not the most durable on the edges, but you can always go back and spray any chips. overall, turned out pretty nice.

I have had very good results with plastidip. for best results, clean the surface as stated above (soap and water) and make sure there is no water left in any crevice. Then, shake the can of dip up a ton. I recommend taking a hairdryer to the can as you shake it. it will spray much better and will lay very smooth. the more coats the better (5-6), it will be easier to remove. before each coat, shake the can a good amount and heat it with the hairdryer, and clean the tip of the nozzle.

here is one of my spray painted wheels
