Hey RB I got a question. I was looking at ur cross over pipe delete and was just wondering what happens if u have to pull the engine. As u welded the pipe behind the flange on the down pipe.

 

then i disconnect the cross-over and down pipe as one piece. The crossover pipe has some type of flex joint in it, and it flexes alot more when the heat sheild welds are removed when i cut it.
Honestly my thought was this engine is coming out, and i will be running the TDI, so a new exhaust is planned for that. If this engine lasts another year i will be stoked!

^^^ No, i wish. He did quite a bit, put in a solid 4 hours. But ran into a few issues.
1. Front drive shaft is too long, and Toyota changed the flange hole spacing in the 90's, so i need to see if i can swap flanges on t-cases.
2. Can't bleed clutch, I think the MC is shot, i can't draw any fluid thru down to the slave cylinder with my pneumatic bleeder, but i could bench bleed it?
3. T-Case seems to be stuck in H2, can't figure this one out yet.

 

Drove the truck with the new 5spd in last night, definitely more peppy and powerful the the life sucking a340 that was in there. Fan controller not working so we just did a quick HWY blast to run thru the gears.

Fabbed a cross-member, used the ends from the donor...


fabbed x-member from 3/8" steel, 2"x4" box cut into wedges, and the factory frame mount points:

I tried to gain as much clearance as possible with transfer case x-member. I plan on getting a nicer transfer case mount since mine is actually worn a bit. Due to this i have a very close clearance issue with one bolt on the transfer case drop, but nothing to stop me from driving it.
Yesterday my fan controller came back, so i was able to install that aswell, but i can't seem to get it functioning correctly at the moment

 

nice.. so whats the plan for the fan controller?

Ok educate me, what is the advantage of having a fan that you can control as opposed to one that kicks on when your engine reaches a certain temp? Great work with the swap by the way.

 

it's not so much manual control as it is adjusting the automation. if the fan doesn't need to kick on until 190*, but it's set for 185*, then it's on for longer than needed. and if you have a 2-speed fan, you can control how often and when the high-speed fan comes on. using a micro-controller, such as the arduino, lets you change virtually any and all parameters of fan control

 

Automated and Toyota should not be used hand in hand. haha just kidding, that's a pretty trick setup. I'll stick to my on/off fan toggle switch. lol.

actually, i just thought about possibly using something like this when i go to the TDI swap, since the ECU passes signal for alot of functions not necessarily engine specific.....hmmm.
i will predict i will waste massive amounts of time....massive.

 

that's the beauty of arduino... pick one! they all do the same thing, just differing in shape, voltage (3.3 or 5), and i/o pins. the mega has a bunch of pins and memory, but the micro is the size of a flash drive
