They just got done rescuing kids stuck on the cliff. I don't think there was any injury, kids just freaked out when they could not come down all the way to the beach and were probably too scared to scale it back up.
That's one nice 4Runner! I love the mods that you've done to it, they're very tasteful and well finished, like they had been factory. Bookmarking this thread because I'll definitely be using some of these mods in the future!
Hey, that headliner looks familiar! Lol.... GREAT STUFF!
Yes, Mark. Good stuff, and because the underlying foam is still good, I just put the mat on top (below really) of that. = Better insulation.
How did TDS go?
(Posting this here for quick reference...)
If tail lights work but dash lights do not, and turning the dimmer does not fix it, before tearing the dash/cluster apart, take a few voltage and resistance measurements at these points, all referenced to chassis ground (bottom of A-Pillar, next to driver side door/kick panel).
GREEN wire supplies 12V.
Red and black wire supplies ground.
Turning dimmer switch varies resistance to ground and adjusts brightness.
Measure actual resistance of gnd side of rheostat to ground (usually white wire-with black stripe).
Great job on the hidden antenna!! I can kind of follow a diagram but trying to go from the diagram to the actual part and where to do test points is where I get lost at. Then you throw a relay or multi switch in the mix and I can get lost quick. Wish I understood electric as good as you do. For the most part I have to try several test points and do a best guess as to where the issue is at. You make it look easy. I do like when you do show in depth explanations then I can see what is going on.
Rear window can be operated by tailgate key switch even with ignition on.
It can only be operated by console switches when Ig switch is on.
IIRC, rear wiper can also only run if ignition switch is on..
Power from ignition switch passes through the yellow circuit breaker attached to fuse/relay block in right side kick panel, and goes to pin 6 of rear window/wiper control relay.
If you have first-gen MoreFunner with the following symptoms at the same time:
1) Rear wiper does not work,AND
2) Rear window does not work from console switches, BUT
3) Rear window works with tailgate key switch...
Most likely cause would be bad or tripped rear window relay circuit breaker. It's the yellow part on the fuse/relay block behind the driver side kick panel.
To verify, take voltage readings at:
1) Pin 6 of rear window control relay, and
2) Pin 4 (white wire) of circuit breaker.
(schematic below)...
Both points should have 12Volts.
Rear Window Control Relay is behind panel behind the driver's seat, near the seat belt retractor machanism...
The yellow relay, is that just for the 4Runners? I have several harnesses and some have it some dont. I was trying to troubleshoot a problem a few months ago and seen it in the diagram and was unable to find it. I thought it was something to do with the year model.
nice work on the electrical mods, i'll bookmark that. the windshield is good to see too, that might be why mine is leaking
Thank you, Sir!
I think the key factors are: Preventing rust in interface between adhesive and body, and making sure layers of primer on body steel, paint on primer, adhesive on primer all stick well. In fact, because I saw how well urethane sticks to things, I'm wondering IF urethane would stick better directly to steel than to paint.
I would also recommend to ask glass tech to use extra thick bead of urethane to ensure lots of contact area and to minimize size of gap/cavity.

Terry,
Were you looking at harnesses of 4Runners only or trucks as well? 1986-1988? Trucks should not need it, but to cut tooling/manufacturing costs maybe the relay blocks have the sockets molded-in regardless of whether there is the Ckt Breaker installed or not?
