Well, not a very exciting update for y'all, but VERY exciting for me. Went ahead and shelled out the $ for a Tacoma width, right hand drop, spring perches already welded Rock Assault housing. Ordered the housing and the longer steering links for the high steer so they can all be shipped in one long box, plus a set of stock knuckles that LowRange had in their "yard sale" section and a set of the TG rubber knuckle wipers. Still out on a fire assignment for a few more days, but hoping its at home when I get there so I can post pics, at least!

Who are you again?
Haha good to hear from you dude! Looking forward to the continuation of the SAS, I thought maybe you sold your rig and bought a heep? Glad you didn't..
What fire are you fighting? Do you happen to be in Forest Hill?

Bad fire year up here too this year. Yellowknife was very smokey for days last week. Some elders in one of the communities had to be moved for awhile to avoid respiratory issues.
It made it look overcast and foggy on what should have been a sunny day. I think my buddy at one of the chopper outfits up here is doing some training to help. I know he already does long lining.
He's a good pilot, took me for a free ride. It was awesome. I love helicopters and he knew it so gave me a good show.
Do you know those old Ford pickups well?
I am thinking of starting my own business when I heal and a pickup will come in handy. I don't want a new one. I want an old one I can pick up for cash and tinker with still able construction materials around easily.

Haha, that's what we're doing on the Aspen fire! Except since Sierra's air attack is committed on the Sequoia, we did the forest recon today, and that turned into an IA for me and a fill in HECM trainee.
Red/jumper/whatever you wanna go by, I'm not ignoring you, but I have more to go into about old Fords than I have time for now. Gotta get my mgmt paperwork done.
Not up in Foresthill, still down on the Sierra NF. 2nd 28 day tour this year!

Hey Red, what do you wanna know about old Ford pickups? I know mostly the '66 to '76 pickups, so I hope that's what you're thinking of.
Questions on FE Big block engines? I'm your guy.
Other engines? I can tell you how to put an FE engine in...
Ability to haul weight questions? My old 3/4 ton can haul more than most modern 1 tons. 1,000 to 1,500 pounds in the bed is when the suspension finally feels smooth and comfy.

Yeah I was thinking those years up to the mid 80's. I know you can find them pretty cheap and with so many still on the road they must be reliable.
I'll dump some money into it if the business idea works out. Getting it all fixed up, practicing sheet metal and paint work is still much cheaper than buying new. Plus to be honest I think the new pickups with big lifts and little tires look ˟˟˟˟ing ridiculous. Even before the lifts the body is so big they look bad. I do like the F150-Raptor though. Who doesn't? It's a cool looking truck.
Another bonus is those old trucks fixed up look nice. The missus likes them too as they are an American icon which she will get to drive and enjoy. She is quite fascinated by American culture. After being outside North America 9 years it's nice to have a new perspective on home so I'm having fun with it too. We are really looking forward to our big road trip we plan before she drags me back to Oz.
When I find the right one I'll know who to ask. Thanks!

Well, there was a TG box on the porch of the office when we got back to the base...but not big enough to hold the housing!

So I'd already received the knuckles from LowRange, and now I've got 3 of the 4 items that are TG and so shipped direct from Fresno, but not the most exciting one.

They sure put enough paper in there to protect the high steer links
Anyway, hopefully that shows up soon. Not really related to my Toy, but there was some interest in what I do for a living. I've been getting to ride in the front seat a lot more this year, and I've had better views, so I thought I'd share them
A lightning struck tree we were on for the Sierra NF while we were there. I didn't cut it down, but it'd have been fun with the right size of saw, which we didn't have

A 2 acre fire from the air

A larger than 2 acre fire from the air

Anyway, I have some more but my Internet is super slow now, and I'm tired, so I'll get to it later.
Hope you enjoy

Toyo, I went through LowRange. They have better prices than direct, as well. Pretty sure usually same prices as Scotty @ Addicted.
Thanks Husker! I think I have a pretty cool job too, most days. Yesterday was very taxing, though, mentally and physically. Last day off was Aug 2nd, and before that was July 14th and 15th. Only 3 days off in June, 2 in July, and I'll only have 3 off in Aug. Major upside...lots of overtime and get to see the country from a helicopter(most times)!

Well look here...

Checking it out, TG seems to have addressed some of the concerns with their initial product. The breather used to be a problem for some people because the ring gear would just spray the oil out the breather. If people sealed that up, it tended to blow the seals at the ends. The breather is offset and has a baffle welded inside

The welds look very good, no slag

The bottom 2 studs have 2 nuts for removing the studs since there's no drain plug.

It's gusseted internally

The perches are even, no 3/8" spacer pad needed, also each have 3 holes for placement

Everything that's included in the kit, housing, inner axles, rtv, and diff bolt kit

Hopefully more progress soon!
