cardboard cover for my inclinometer/altimeter. i was/am waiting for glue to dry, so i thought i'd made a cover for this. i think i'll take it apart and use it as a template for plastic sometime.

Ian are you concerned about low bridges? or is your truck just excited to meet me?

why the heavy "glass" antenna? you got a HF radio now?...
YK that thing is going to distract you as you run down the road and the cops won't accept as an excuse when you slam into a car full of nuns...

sssssss.....aaahhhhh

i thought it was the the really flexy antenna, like brandon has. but it's not, so i'll live with it (plus, it was on sale).

height: 7'-10" (238cm). so the only things i'll have to worry about are parking garages or trail riding.

now i need to borrow an swr meter...

I'm gonna buy an swr meter, amazon has it for 13$.
Brandon has a Wilson flex antenna, but I've only found it in 4' length. I just picked up a midland 75-822 and the cb world is foreign to me.

The 4' length is what I have. Great antenna BTW. Very tree and parking garage friendly antenna. Well worth the money I paid for it.

How many antennas can yo do this to?

And yeah yeah, I know the SWR meter on the radio isn't as accurate, but my separate one doesn't show much of a difference.

Watched that vid last night.
I think I am going to mount an antenna to my tire carrier, I'd like a tall enough antenna that I could tie it down to the roof rack when entering a garage. Do I need a spring mount?

brandon- i got the "wilson flex4" antenna, and it's pretty stiff. do you have any more info on yours?

side-note: when i measured, i put a label on the mic so i don't hafta remember the height. pic later.

I don't have a spring on mine with it. But it did take it's toll on the mount I do have. I think that has something to do though it it being mounted to thinner aluminum. I think if it's on a standard mount the flex in the antenna should be enough. You can kinda see that in that vid and how the bed moves with the antenna. A spring, even a light duty one, might mess with the SWR some. You can get away with it on the tire carrier, but you got to make sure that somehow that carrier is RF grounded to the body somehow. I know you will have the latch contact, but it's better to bond the carrier somehow in 1 or 2 more spots. If that makes sense.

The one showed in your photo on your bumper is a flex?

This is the one I have: http://www.walcottcb.com/flex4-wilso...na-p-1525.html
And as you can see that thing isn't exactly "stiff".

Sounds like you have the same one I do if it's the flex-4 so not sure what up with that. Make sure yours isn't the FGT-4.

And RBX they only make a 3' and 4' FLEX antennas. http://www.wilsonantenna.com/fiberglass.php

Yeah if that's the same one on your bumper, looks like someone put an FGT-4 into a FLEX-4 package. That even appears to be too thick. Besides the wire isn't wound like that on the FLEX antenna either. As you can see in the video and this below photo, that you an barely see the wire wrap and is almost smooth.

FYI An FGT antenna is a standard 3/8" diameter whereas the FLEX are 1/4" diameter.
