yeah. after reading and researching, "high-flow" means non-cali. i have the 49-state one, so it is "high-flow". only problem is that it's 2" instead of 2.25", so that'll get replaced eventually.

now i'm thinking of doing the whole exhaust system... but headers first.

OOOh, exciting! lol. Well, the exhaust system can be done pretty reasonably, by yourself, granting you can weld it up(which you can) and bend some pipe(or buy some bent with the proper angles). Then pick out your muffler and header and just slap it all in in a day, ya know?

I'd bet dollars to donuts that Ian is doing some "which header is best for me?" research in his spare time, eh? hahaha.

i'll be getting a doug thorley 555y-c. so no more research there.

my only thing with doing it myself is i'm not too keen on stainless welding*. i know they make stainless flux-core 1# .035, so that's not the issue. the issue is the lack of information available, like no one has ever done it before (or at least posted it to the net). the header will bolt in, so i'm not too worried about that.

*the better mufflers are all stainless

Piece of advice, don't weld on that header. It will make life miserable in the event you have to pull out that engine. Ask me how I know. lol. Get yourself a hold of a flange that mates with it. And weld on that. You should be able to find one with 2.5" diameter pipe.

Yep, the Borla I have has not one SPOT of rust on it..... Neither does the rest of the exhaust system.. Even the hangers I got are stainless.(Actually, made friends with the exhaust guy who did my stuff and he slapped em in there after cutting them out of another rig/had them laying around, ya know?).

Happy hunting(for info, of course, lol).

Oh yeah, Brandon is right..... I did not have the CAT back pipe welded to the LCE... just bolted in, and the LCE kit came with that pipe, which also has the O2 bung, so I had it welded to the CAT, proper angle for the 02, then bolted to the header...> it's working great. Just have to remove that Exhaust Manifold support brace that's bolted in there... it's usually in the way of most headers.

actually there's not a lot of bending required on our exhausts... mainly the kick down from the manifold/header and the bend out on the tailpipe other then that it can be done with all straight pieces.

who said anything about bending? hehe

i know. just a few to get it around the shocks, spare, etc. i won't be bending anything (ain't got no bender). probably use less than 180* of total bends

one thing i thaught of for my exhaust is having it exit in front of the rear tires. that way no matter how flexie you get no worries of the exhaust getting in the way.

how goes the work on the trailer? since you're waiting for truck parts anyway might as well get some work done there...

I am going to set up my mig to weld stainless. Just need wire and a tri-mix tank to minimize splatter. It can be done with mild steel wire and argon/co2 mix, but that sort of defeats the purpose to do stainless when all your welds will rust.
I need to build an exhaust for my bike, and while tig is ideal, i don't have a tig machine, nor have practice. I tried it once, and it is alot harder then mig or arc. Plus, when i figure out how and where i'm going to get a 1kd-ftv dropped in the runner, that will get stainless exhaust also.
Sounds like a wrenching day may be rampping up soon.

er, um... not much being accomplished right now. i desperately want to get the roof done, but it'll take a wile. at my pace, longer than 2 days. this weekend i might be able to pull it out and work on it some more.

rb- sounds good. keep me in the loop!

(and where are you getting this 1kd-ftv from???)

Don't know, JDM Elite is in Phily and they said they normally don't import diesels, but would not give a price and said they wouldn't do it until spring at the earliest.
