i believe every page needs a picture, so here's one from earlier this week...
this is the shop at my school. well, about a fifth of it. the rest is tables, shop tools, and aircraft parts

Hey Ian, .....
You know, this can be a tough one.... My recommendation would be to pull the exhaust manifold(you run stock, right?)... have it checked, and if it's not the manifold, then START with a Remflex Gasket? It worked for a couple guys on here with some warping, etc.
First things first though, right? >>> I would have the manifold checked out to rule out/conclude, "HEAD", ya know?
PS> Cool pic, btw!

have you checked the torque specs on those bolts. make sure they didn't bottom out on the head stud. i have had those studs back out, then stick when trying to put them back in.the exhaust manifold is cast, i never heard of one warping. But then again i haven't really looked to see if this happens to anyone else.

thanks guys. i'll look into the remflex gaskets, and order new hardware. they seem to be fairly inexpensive.
i'll also measure the warp on the manifold and head. :crossfingers: that it's the manifold. i'm getting brian's old manifold when he installs his new headers, so if the manifold is warped, i'll have another chance at a non-warped one

thanks. shouldn't be too hard. do you think i could weld a piece on there? or would that compromise the structural integrity of the manifold?
come to think of it, i could just put a wideband o2 sensor in there... hmmm

HOWEVER....it's far more common for the Head to warp(NOT SAYING THAT'S EVEN LIKELY).... but that's not likely because it's even more common for the studs to back out like was mentioned.... ESPECIALLY if the exhaust was removed for HG job(seem to remember it was, lol).... and even more likely to be the studs or flange leaking if the 'lock nuts' weren't ALL replaced during this job.
They make they make block off plates at LCE for that O2 hole in the 86 Manifold(if you even need it). Then, you would just use the gasket that goes there along with some copper goo and the block plate and voila!
Personally, I would just pull the manifold and have it tested for leaks/small unseen cracks/even warpage. A quick way to tell where the leak is would be a lil sucking in at Booster of some seafoam..... let it soak for a few minutes and then watch it POUR out! lol. Have mirrors and such ready and you will see if it's coming out of top or bottom, cracks or right at the head or both, etc., ya know?

Hey Ian! I finally had a little down time so I decided to read through your build thread to get caught up on everything that you have been working on over the last couple months.
Nice work on the efan and indicator light! You're electrical knowledge never ceases to amaze me.
I'm glad that you were able to get the low oil pressure issue figured out pretty easily. I did something similar when I installed my aftermarked oil pressure gauge, I just connected the wrong wire to the wrong place so it wasn't reading properly.
I hope that you get the exhaust leak figured out, and hopefully it isn't too expensive to fix....
Anyway, keep up the good work!

quick question to anyone:
can the a/c compressor be "clocked"?
mine is the later model, so the hoses stick straight up, and it's annoying. if possible, i want to clock it with the hoses out of the way
