HOLY CRAPOLI! lol... I like that you're doing this project and documenting so well. Hey Ian, Rob, would that box be just fine for my 'extra' fuse panel? Just keep it up high and safe for the most part from creek flooding, etc.? lol.

Sure thing, I have mine mounted high under the hood but if you where worried about it you could always mount it in your glove box or someplace you know will stay dry.

also, i like how compact the fuse box is, as it will fit between my battery and p/s reservoir

mount it higher than your battery terminals. that way, you know for sure it's not the weakest link

Rob, ..hmmmm, yours is 86, riight? I'm sitting here, thinking, "Hey, where's his diag. port? ...and wait, CRUISE CONTROL BOX? mines in the kick panel and diaphram on the other side...what's goin on here?" hahaha.

Ian, ..you did an intake/battery swap? Man, my memory is on total overload, man! lol. I can't even picture it...grrr, lol. Yeah, I want to, unless I did a snorkel style intake some day(because I think it would be the ultimate 'cold air', lol. Errr, unless when driving through the High Sierras in July, AZ in Summer, ....yeah, not so 'cool' then, eh? but still cooler than the engine bay! hahaha.

alternatorparts.com- wasn't an exact fit (see below), but it works better than splicing. it's made for a smaller case, but the plug still fits

i recently replaced the big "80 amp" fuse(able link) in the stock fuse box, as the old one was corroded. i'll be putting in big in-line fuses for the major components, to avoid serious problems.

today i had started on the buss bars, but the drill press motor gave out. so, i'm going to have to dig out my dad's and do them here. and a hand hack saw works waaaay better than the band saw... huh...

it was intentional, but not for "gutter" reasons.

since i'm a train geek, i thought it worked out perfect. but, alas, perverted minds have once again taken innocent words and made them into a guilty phrase

Ian
what size fusible link did you replace the 80amp with when you did the alternator swap. I am about to do mine, and thought i should match the 120amp found in the MR2 the alternator was designed for. The other posts i have read say nothing about upsizing the fusible link...

Stop me if I am wrong, but I think the consensus is to use a 120 amp fuse to replace the 80amp and upgrade the fusible link wire to the batt to at least 4-6 ga wire and not use a true fusible link. Although some (very few) people have argued that upgrading the slow blow link wire is not safe.

Just posting this as I was thinking of going to a GM alt. and will have to do the same thing. Just wondering if I am right or not. And since Irab88 is the king of wire.......

do not use a higher amperage fusible link

if it's for the stock fuse box, use what was originally there. the vehicle will only use up to that amount (80 amps in my case). if you exchange it with a higher rating, you run the risk of overloading the stock wires. it doesn't matter what the alternator puts out, as that is determined by how much of a load you put on it. if you put in a second fuse box (like me), you can make that fusible link whatever you need it to be, as long as it's safe

I have plans to add another alternate fuse box for accessories hanging off of a deep cycle, so i guess i would put the second fuseible link on that side as well.
I need to look at my wire diagram....
