Ian , nice summer find ! I think I would leave the axle alone, keeps the center of gravity low and you never know it is there.

thanks mark... yeah, this thing is small. i was able to push it around by myself with ease. also, you can lift the tongue with one hand (a bit heavy, but not impossible). i don't know about storing it sideways, but it does fit in small spaces

i'm not too worried about the center of gravity on this thing. it's just so low to the ground right now that you can't even get a bottle jack under it to change the tire. what i am worried about is going into parking lots and having to go up that transition piece, where everyone scrapes their trailers. in reality, it's only a max of 2", which shouldn't be that bad. it'll still be pretty low to the ground, but you're right, center of gravity would be a factor if it was going up higher. and if i don't like it, i can always put it back to where it was

the only downside to the trailer is that it'll put project dual-fuel on hold for a bit, just so i can get this cleaned up and recover some funds

I love finding stuff on craigslist I wasn't necessarily looking for at a great price. Would you use that in WV?

uuuhh.. yes, i would use it for camping in west virginia? ha, i do have a camp site out there, so i'll have to try it out some weekend. maybe i'll go up on my spring break. probably not, though.
i searched all of washington dc area, and it includes stuff from front royal (where i got it), baltimore, and some stuff from the eastern shore and richmond. every now and then, i'll search those near-by cities (ie: richmond), which aren't too far away, but a good weekend drive.

idea for the trailer: i've always wanted to do a riveted skin, and this seems like the perfect candidate. now i need a rivet gun

yeah, they're uploading now. i just got done opening it up. pretty spacious.

here's the link to where i'm posting all the pics of the camper:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f172...thread-231792/

the tires are a normal width, they're just tiny (edit: 18.5 x 8.5 - 8)

Very cool. I have a friend that has one of those that he got for free we had to fix the electrical but now it runs of of a 12v hookup we made for his winch that is mounted on a trailer hitch so you can move it front to back of his truck we had to run duel batteries but they both charge off the truck but we also did the axel flip like you where talking about and he hasn't had a problem with the center of gravity being to high and he towes it all over the high sierra

so back to this rig for a bit:

i'm about to roll over to 175 today (woo) which means oil change this weekend. speaking of oil change, i think i know what those bits in the old oil are. i have a "rattle" right around 2000, so i think the timing chain tensioner is starting to go.

here is a video of what it sounds like. the sound quality is better than i expected, but still not bose

Pop your valve cover off ASAP, and take a long flat head screwdriver and see if you can move the passenger side guide(if its still there). This is an interference engine!!! If the chain pops, new valves will be needed!$!$!
I would say that if you haven't replaced that timing chain yet, and you have 175k on the clock, you are driving on borrowed time. You will also want to change the oil immediately following the timing chain install because of debris falling into the oil pan.
If you haven't done a timing chain before, i would be happy to give you a hand.

With that said, i listened to the vid and i couldn't tell you if it sounds like the chain or not.
