good thread to get some pointers!
due im doing up my 1994 4runner (hilux surf, due its a Jap import), started fitting 2007 Toyota Sequoia disc brakes, and 13WL calipers.
good job so far, looking forwards for more.
Haven't really had much time to work on this project lately.
Recently switched shifts to day shift, after almost 15 years on nights my body is having a heck of a time adjusting.
A couple of weeks ago I headed down to check out 85Toyman's recent Australian acquisition. A diesel straight axle double cab Hilux brings little jeolousy. It is like a cool truck.
He also found a 2nd Gen spare tire swing out mount that was only on 90 & 91's that he offered at a smoking deal. Hopefully get it mounted in the next couple of weeks
I had taken the running boards off and screwed up thinking I had gotten everything removed from the mounts and accidently ripped off the d/s rear quarter guard.
Ordered a pack of the moulding clips off ebay. 4runner moulding clips
Cleaned up the wheel arch so some 3M tape would stick for the next few years
Between the 3m tape and the replacement moulding clips it fit like a charm
Did you get the inside support part for the tire carrier hinges too or are you gonna do some fabbing? At least, I think there's an inner part too...
That's an excellent find!

From what I understand the internal support was welded internally to the quarter panel.
I have an idea for an internal support that I should be able to fab up fairly easily to help spread the load.
It will take a little cutting, bending and welding but shouldn't take too long if it goes as planned
Getting used to day shift will take a while for that to happen and is a little rough for a while. Those diesel, straight axles, quad cabs are a dime a dozen every where else but here. Really are some great trucks. No rust behind that trim is a good sign that the rest is probably rust free. I had a 91 and behind that trim was gone, not sure what held it on at the time.
That helps a lot, kind of what I expected as far as factory internal bracing.
It looks like you shorted the swing out slightly for your roof ladder.

When I was in Panama and Haiti it was cool to see the 2nd & 3rd Gen DC's everywhere. Didn't see any 1st gen.
85toyman said the early ones were quite expensive, he got a sweet deal on both of his.
I got lucky on rust, in the 5 years my neice drove this 4Runner she put less than 20K on it.
I ordered a Noco Genius battery charger for the 4Runner today that will allow me to keep a trickle charge going.
The 4runner sits for so long that I have to jump it periodically. PITA. .
Quick 15 minute project to get the Noco Genius charger installed Added the connector through the grill (grill will be replaced down the road) Easy connection The charger has settings for different batteries, gives you battery status.
i found this morning in the barn a spare internal reinforcement, swing away spare wheel bracket, if you want to save yourself time fabricating that, let us know
Neat little gadget with plug-in convenience. I like it.
Thanks Hab-I am all about convience

So today was sort of like Christmas for me when I got home from work. I scored a Ram Tablet Mount on eBay for 20% of what they go for new. This one is used but functions awesome. It is missing the right side retainer but the spring loaded tongs hold the tablet well.
The dual suction mounts are extremely secure even with a 10" Tablet.
Even my blind old Vision balls can see the map.
Nice thing is it is easily moved from vehicle to vehicle
Had the afternoon to work on the 4Runner so started to tackle the rear tire mount
Looks like no one had touched the tailgate before
Some people said to take out the window...decided to chance it
Someone's not so good version of trailer wiring. .it will get fixed. ..not that these things can tow much
The afternoon went quicker than I thought so I don't have pics of the flat stock I used to beef up the inside mount
I will need to raise the tire mounting surface when I put the 35's on this thing but it should do the trick
Still need to cut the old license plate mount to cover the holes in the tailgate and repaint the swing out, it is a bit weathered after 25 years.

The spare tire mount turned out nice. I didn't realize they were only offered for a couple years on second gens, now it makes sense why I never see any around lol. I like your Ram tablet mount. I was trying to find something similar, but my inclinometer kinda limits my mounting options. I cheaped out and started building a mount, it's going to slide into the track were the ashtray used to go. Should have it finished tomorrow.
