well today i duraglassed the drivers corner an several dents on the hood to start the process of smoothing it to be less like a dent an more a hood had to put it out in the sun to help it cure just cool enough in the shop to keep it soft

hauled it out into the sun while i went to do something else

heres the picture of the lengthened bracket for the steering ujoint that with the new steering box was needed

and HERE is the reassembled steering box cooling lines an reserve can on the fender WITH the shield over the u-joint

You are getting after it. Where you have the 2 cirlcles in the second picture that looks like a duck head, I run into those exact same dents in the hood on just about every truck.

where? LOL i was never any good at spotting animal shapes LOL

i now have 3 applications of duraglass (each a tiny bit smaller/thinner than the one before just trying to fill in some tiny dents an sanding goofs the hood looks really bad its not

the sander cut through the top 4 layers of paint like a cheese grater i had lumps of thick paint puffs everywhere
as i sand the duraglass the paint is thinning down to the factory gray primer layer

Sexy work..... NICE on the slaying of the DUCK HEAD DENT! hahaha. Terry, you're funny.... and ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I know that ding and HAVE ONE MYSELF, RIGHT NOW! I think it's smaller for sure... And NO DUCK head... but same spot in the seam! ..... I think it HAS to be from shutting the hood... that's a week spot... Something like that? <<<< ??

How you doing, D in the place to BE???? You're KICKIN ARSE-IJIUWAIAH! LOL.

You made quick work of that. I am not that fast at all, just persistant.

Thanks Mark, I do have some dry humor that I am not always sure comes thru.

its not perfect.. the drivers corner has some issues still but to make it right id need a lot more duraglass on there than id want, too thick an clunk off it falls one day when i close the hood after checking the oil or something so its strong (important) an nearly right

im not fast either terry took over a week to get the sanding done an then another to get kris on welding the issues it had pulling the huge dents to much shallower ones for the filler to be useable that one dent was 3/4" deep which was why the bondo fell off an below it caused the rustout which had to be patched

doing things with a tiny budget is a pain

sanded the hoods primer last night to knock down the dust an such then hit it again took a moment to wet sand the fender an hit it with a better matching red id found an today finished primering an then gave the block a coat of paint

WHOO she looks good in blood red an with the brass freeze plugs to go in..LOL almost tempted to polish them up bright an shiny seal them with clear iz got a fire engine! LOL

kris suggests since the timing cover is stained so bad and it had silver paint on it at one point to paint it as well im seriously considering it already put a coat of paint on the water pump which was nearly black with oil stain

we finished up a project in the house the laminate wood floor upstairs (way too windy for much activity outside)

well as terry would say some people

PO either did it or his garage they didnt put antiseize on the spark plugs... YOU ALWAYS PUT ANTISEIZE ON SPARK PLUGS IN ALUMINUM HEADS!!! AGGGHHHHHHH

head goes in for boil now it gets that the valves cleaned an seated an least 1 helicoil spark plug hole....#3 is a dead hole
#4 might be a the plug came out with a weirdly melted galled thread it was only threaded in half way an was tight

sigh... an my bodywork blah...

Awwwwwwww, hey man, the lil biscuit approves!!!! ....... And honest, Dragon.... it looks a HELL SHY from what it was... I can totally relate to wanting things as "PLUM" as possible... but... work with what we got, right? For some reason I thought you were doing a 'roll on' job... I've seen those turn out INSANELY professional looking... BUT, those guys have done a few, ya know? Anyway, MEH, ... it was a NIGHTMARE, ..now it's turning the corner into Halloween Costumed kid.... Next will be "IT'S CHRISTMAS, I'M DONE!' .... even if you're yelling 'It's Christmas' in June, ya feel me? hehehe....

I LOVE the color... Looks EXACLY like I did my first engine... Which was "FORD RED"... i SWEAR that's the closest to Toyota Red which I can't find any more... So, I go with that, and WILL, on the top. I'm going to grab an air brush and do my roof before I do the Con-ferr mod.... I'll be hitting you and Terry and Jason and more up on how to best treat/prep the roof. Was going to do a kinda TAN/Gold top to match the stripes.... But everyone yelled at me hahaha. Actually, I think RED on RED looks best... BUT, I think it woulda looked cool, hahaha.>>>

There's always Black, too... But I've been told by my pops, "NO respectable Expeditioneering Man would paint his Truck let alone roof Black, son!", ...last time I visited him.... Know what color his Tundra Limited 4Door 2007 4WD is? BLACK ON BLACK! hahaha....... but then, he's no longer exploring, so yeah.......

i think a metalic gold top matching your stripes plus! a few red ones going up into the gold would look epic chef

kris has repeatedly said you should paint the top black an im OH heck no! HOT dude EEP! :-P

my old 79 chevy sleeper/racer truck multi colored to heck black an blue body hood with a white roof to stave off the heat in houston (no AC)

what i will do is sand the top smooth of its duralliner texture an do a glossy red paint job i MIGHT do a black pinstripe on it just to tie it in with the skelital dragon side graphic i found
anyhow the red im using is royal red krylon VERY close match to the factory red

Block looks great. I feel for you on the head, just gotta to love some the POs work. Alot of times they try to torque the plugs in so tight. The plugs dont require near the amount of torque that some people do, which I used to be guilty of that myself.

I got some black rattle can primer and just a mist across the area I am working on will show the imperfections. Once you get the old paint off, it is surprising at how easily the dings disappear. In primer it can look great but that first mist of paint and it is usually to late as you have already started.
