I got my order from Trail Gear. I now have just about everything for the suspension, along with a couple other things.

3" Front springs, 4" rear

Misc other suspension stuff

I also ordered their rocksliders. I was going to make my own but with the price of steel and the time required to make them, it was smarter to buy them. They come with three supports that run to frame but I plan on adding a couple more and having 5-6 on each side.

While I'm on the subject of parts I might as well go over the front axle. It's the same axle I had in the old 4Runner and I built it up as much as I could. Here's some of the details.

84-85 Housing, Shaved drain plug
Trussed with diff guard and knuckle gussets
30 spline Long's with hub gears
ARP knuckle studs with BL 5th stud
2" Wheel spacers
Backing plate spacer, Marlin brake lines, custom brake line mounts, vented rotors
Marlin high steer w/ new TG tie rod
TG hydro assist steering
5.29's with Lockright (Need to get an ARB, but it might be a while)

And some old pictures on the last truck

Hey, I'm lovin the build! just a random question...what does the flex tube do? Why does a turbo exhaust need a flex thing?

the flex tube could be for, and correct me if im wrong, to help with the hard twists that the motor put on the hardtube exhaust...

also, after looking at dana 60's and corporate 14 bolts all my life, ive forgotten that the toyota fron axles look like matchsticks!! lol...

I really want it done for spring time, so I have been putting in some extra hours. This build seems to be more basic than the last and coming along pretty fast. On the last 4Runner everything was custom and took a bunch of time.

I understand how you feel about Oregon. I was pretty much born and raised in Colorado and I never thought I could live anywhere else. After going to Oregon, if I had to leave Colorado it would be on the top of my list.

Thanks, the flex prevents any added stress on the turbo, gaskets and manifold. The turbo and manifold are known for cracking and overheating, they see such extreme heat cycles and when you mix that with vibration it's not good. In addition to the flex I plan on chaining the motor mounts, this will allow them to move around and not create extra vibration in the cab (like solid motor mounts) but it limits how much it can move. Also, if you break a motor mount the engine can not move around any more than normal.

Yea I have to agree, Toyota axles are tiny , it really surprises me how well they hold up. On the same hand, because they are tiny you get alot more clearance under them than a one ton axle. A 35" tire on a Toyota axle probably has the same clearance under the diff as a 37"-40" on a 60 or 14 bolt, although the 60 and 14 bolt will be stronger.

I got the rocksliders installed on Saturday, it was quite easy but a little time consuming. They look a little funny, but when I get the larger tires installed it should look better.

Heres a couple things I should make note of. First, I added two more supports on each side, they only come with three per side. Second, they where a bit shorter than I thought they should be. I should have measured but instead I ordered the one's that they said were for my 4Runner, after holding them up to the body I wish I got some thing a little bit longer. They only go from the front of the door to the beginning of the rear plastic thim before the wheel (refer to pictures).

I also noticed that the steel they where made out of was a little cheap. The website said they were made out of .120 wall seamless tubing (I was thinking high quality DOM). But when I inspected them, I noticed that there was heavy pitting on the surface and the overall quality of the product seemed to be lackng. I understand that you get what you pay for but I was expecting a little bit more. If I was to do it again I think I would have spent the extra money on the All-Pro sliders (or made my own), but I have not used these yet so I'm waiting to see how they work and hold up. I just feel that if you order a product you should know what your getting.

I kept with the install anyways and this is how it turned out.

After spending the last couple weekends in the shop I needed a break, so I decided to do a little wheeling. Overall it was a lot easy terrain but it was a really good time. All of the trails were about 20 minutes from my house, just in case I ran into an issue.

This was the first time I have taken the Turbo 4Runner wheeling, and overall I'm impressed by how well it worked stock. The auto trans and transfer case acted up a few times, but I still had a good time.

It's amazing, I love being able to go wheeling for a couple hours and get to places like this. There is always something new to check out.

I started up Chihuahua Gulch, had the hubs locked in and shifted into 4 low. Making my way up the trail I noticed that the transmission seemed to be slipping a lot, I hit a rock about 6" tall and the truck didn't want to move. I thought for sure that the tranny gave up the ghost, I was looking for a place to turn around and ran into a couple ATV's that I could hardly get around. After reversing a bit, I started back up the road and what would you know; 4 low for some reason was not working before, but now it was. This was after about 1/4 of a mile and several forward and reverse sections. Once 4 low was really working, the day went pretty smooth, besides for the bad shuttering when it's in reverse and the couple times the tranny seemed to be really slipping.

I always run into old vehicles like that. Most of them are only feet from a cabin or mine, I'm sure that they broke down and they were literaly pushed out of the way. Here's a couple of the other's.
