I can't wait to get it installed, along with the gear drive transfer case (I really just want to go wheeling). It should add a whole new level of control over the trans and transfer case.

Keep up the good work.
Thanks, you make a great product. I can't wait to test it out!

I would try to get a hold of Hayes for info about the transfer case controller. I think he has some info on the wiring/electronics, I know it's like a mini auto transmission. I think it would be pretty easy to figure out.

One the 1st day, the other the 2nd day. Fortunately I had brought 2 spares with me. One Low-Profile and the other my original stock. lol I believe both got used! But the second truck ruined the threads so bad that he was going to weld the plug in when he got home. Given the option, the way you did it was a much better idea!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You do GREAT Work!!!

Keep up the GREAT Work and the Updates!

That's exactly why I cut them out! I've seen this happen WAY too many times. When I first built the old green 4Runner I just welded the drain plugs in. It worked well but I didn't gain any clearance and I could still feel the plug grab on the rocks (until I wore it down a bunch). It makes draining the fluid a PITA, but really, how often to you replace the fluid. I replace mine once or twice a year, I figure that it's worth the extra work.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad that people are finding this thread usefull. I have learned tons from other build treads and write-ups, I figured that I should return the favor.

I worked on the truck all day Saturday and got a decent amount of work done. I tore apart the front and rear axles to swap 3rd members, I also wanted to replace the front axle seals since one of them was leaking.

I started by draining the gear oil, it's really easy if you pull the 3rd member

I tore apart the passenger side (that was leaking) and this is what came out...

Gear oil + grease =

Then I tore apart the driver side ...

This is what I found, the grease looked like peanut butter or chocolate. I can't tell if this was from water coming in contact with the grease, heat or just normal discoloration?

I love this build! Great work and great detail and great ideas and just plain great . I'm keeping my eye on it and can't wait to see it finished and wheeling.

But I was thinking a lockrite would be easier in the front than the spooled? Cause doesn't it kind of unlock, which would make steering easier? Oh well, I guess we'll find out how you like the setup

And that right there is the only way to turn a spooled front end. I ran spools front and rear in an old scout for a while and with out the ram assist you couldn't turn that pig on pavement.

Man I'm sorry this took so long. There are indeed two sets of numbers. The top one is 22250-43110 and the bottom one is 197100-3020. It's from a 1982 Supra with the 5mge motor.

Exactly, without the hydro assist I wouldn't be able to turn the thing. I had a hard enough time with the lockrite before I got the hydro assist. The lockrite hardly ever disengaged, let's just say that Hell's Revenge was a little rough.

One more thing to remember, my front axle is not stock. I have the 30 spline Longfields, LF 300m hub gears, ARP knuckle studs, LF 5th stud mod and some other stuff . A stock Toyota front axle would not like a spool very much!

I don't even try to drive on pavement with the front hubs locked or in 4 wheel drive. Even in the winter I hardly ever use 4 wheel drive, the rear locker really does a good job of getting around. Also, most the easy /moderate trails I run in two low. It's a lot more comfortable and saves some wear on the front end.

Thanks for grabbing the part numbers, I'll have to check mine

That's the manual controller for the auto transmission. I'll have a switch that will let the computer drive (like normal) or let me shift when I want. I will also be able to have a true first gear without it shifting to second on me.

On a side note, I always use the factory Toyota sealant (FIPG) P/N 00295-01281 on my third members and transfer cases. The stuff works great and doesn't smell like crap (like everything else out there).

I also tightened up my steering box. It had some play in the wheel and kind of wanted to wander around on the road. It only took 5 minutes (if that) and made a huge differance in how the steering feels. I can't believe I didn't do it sooner .

The adjuster is the screw head with the nut around it. Loosen the nut, tighten the screw and retighten the nut. That's about it.

Also, when you regeared your diffs, did the vibration you were getting at idle stop? I just got my diffs installed today and the idle vibration (the one that felt like the TC was unlocking) went away completely.

Great pictures!
Please forgive me if this has already been answered, but is the only way to connect a toyota automatic to a gear driven case with the inchworm adapter?

WOW. I missed alot. I had no idea you scrapped your other runner until I saw you post up on the CO4rj thread. Sad to see it go, I loved that truck and got a lot of ideas for mine from it.

Anyways. This new one is bad ass. After carnage last year I wonder how long you can keep it clean

The mount is a modified Sirius mount, the end used to have a suction cup. I removed the suction cup and found a piece of C channel that the bracket fits inside. It's really simple but sounds complex, I'll take some pictures tommorrow. That would work better.

Hayes, the vibration your talking about is when you are at a stop, in drive and the RPM's drop a bit. Right? The whole vehicle shakes and if you shift into neutral it's fine.

The vibration I was getting got a lot better before I did the SAS and gear swap. That's when I decided to keep the auto instead of swaping to a five speed. After the SAS it started acting up again (maybe two or three weeks later, and only for a couple days). Overall it has gotten a LOT better, but not gone away completly.

Yea, the Inchworm adapter is the only available option for the non-Tacoma auto trannys. There are a couple other companys that have made them, but they are not really available. The Inchworm set-up is really nice, I'll try to take some pictures of that too.

I think I need to knock on wood after that comment!

Thanks! The last 4Runner was awesome, but not very practical with out a tow rig. After the last Carnage run, the truck was done. There was really no way to save it.

After a lot of thought, and looking at a bunch of rigs (including yours), I decided to build something more comfortable and well rounded. I'll be able to run most of my favorite trails (except Carnage ).
