I am now looking into getting a decent compressor... I would like to mount it to the roll bar as well as mounting the air tank to the roll bar. I simply want something that will run for a good long time without any drama. it doesn't have to be gigantic, I can wait a few minutes to air up... I just want one that's really reliable. I've heard great things about the new Smittybilt air compressors and also heard that ARB have improved there's and fixed the problems they were having. I just know very little about these... any practical advice that someone has from experience would be appreciated.

What i am planning on doing is getting a compressor and using a piggy back tank to hold more air so i could run air tools for a short time or air up multiple tires at once, im still looking for an air compressor i want but as for an air tank i found some pretty perfect ones for my use. they are off of a caterpillar scraper they were the air tanks used to power the air brakes on the rear tires

I want to get something like a longer oxygen tank or something low profile that won't interfere with the space back there where I sleep. there are lots of ways to go and I have plenty of space up underneath now or I could store an air tank without worrying about it getting crushed. I could strap it to the spare tire carrier frame, something like that. I'm just hoping someone can tell me that they've had this or that compressor and use the hundred times in the last year and it still works fine! lol. problem is that many of them have changed quality over the last few years from what I've been reading. that makes me a little nervous. having a run the trail can be pretty critical at times and making sure that it works when you need it is part of that critical factor.

yeah ive heard that too i was kind of toying with the idea of taking an ac compressor off an 22re motor and building a set of brackets for it and making a belt driven air compressor so i wouldnt have to worry as much

the old york compressors are used regularly for air systems on off road rigs and arent too big to fit in around the 22re would likely require an extra pulley and a relay to a switch to kick it on an off

For all you folks looking for air tanks why not check out a semi-truck wrecker? Those large trucks with air brake systems all have tanks and some of the tanks are smaller than others and would fit underneath easily and they are built to withstand exposure to road hazards.
Just an option to consider...
Which way you go make sure your tank has a way to drain moisture (and drain it regularly) or it will rust out from the inside and could even explode from over pressure due to corroded weak spots.

Great ideas......

I'm gonna maybe post up some info that I've dug up....

There's semi-wreckers at one of my local PYP's..... Gonna ask Jason_in_TN to see if he knows which rigs put in the best quality tanks..... A Mack and Peterbuilt I drove never seemed to have air brake problems...... But I wasnt the one maintaining them.....Just did daily checklists for Class A HAZMAT logs.....

Jason!?!? Hahahaa

Smittybilt now has a 10lb CO2 system I have seen on ebay for $225-250 shipped.
Pretty nice with a 250lb adjustable regulator, with that you could run power tools

Edit-just saw your hub pics..I think I am gonna have to clean mine up. Yours came out awesome

To bad shipping woud be a dog because i have some old air tanks from some of the trucks at work, theres a nice dual tank they sit side by side slim profile off a 2012 kenworth and they would fit nicely underneath i think.

My brain is so fried today I'm not sure if Rob posted this or not... but I know he mentioned it... just thought I'd sure as it also has an optional roll bar mount.....

Couple of compressors I was looking at... might be able to get a deal for my buddy at 4 Wheel Parts, but he's going into the executive thing and he's not there as often and not as likely able to do me favors anymore. we will see.....
