Question;

Anyone have a CLUE on the Cruise Control Systems in our 5spd Manual 1st Gen 4Runners, w/22re?

1. I know all about the diaphragm in the cruise control booster in the Engine Bay(I'm not sure, but mine appears to be CHERRY in condition in side. When I push it in, from the front, NO hissing, it plunges good and has no obvious visual tares that I can see in there)

2. Does the Cruise Control Module in the CAB/Driver side kick panel/.... BIG ORANGE THINGS, RIGHT? LOL.... Does that often go out?

3. Is there a Cruise Control Fuse? (I doubt it, just thought I'd be wishful in thinking as I have a LONG trip coming up.... and I'd LOVE TO FIX THIS, not to mention, well, .... you know, .... I WANT THIS THING TO ACTUALLYYYYYYY BE MOSTLY RESTORED! lol... That includes the Cruise Control.

4. I replaced my broken Actuator button with one from the yard, ...and now, my washer fluid button is fixed! ( I think the Cruise Is actuated by the on-off-on style switch in the wiper side arm..... Not sure it's related to the lil button portion on the end I replaced to fix the Wiper fluid)

5. The Cruise Control Button on the Dash lights up, any time I push it..... that counts for something, right? hahaha. Doesn't it mean the Cruise Control System is now 'allowed current', as in, isn't the button a sort of 'passive/closed' breaker of sorts? As in, EVEN IF CRUISE DID WORK ON MINE..... it wouldn't 'operate' if that 'lighted button' in the dash wasn't depressed, right?

Please, I've already heard all the "Cruise Control, what's that?" I can handle, ..... Oh heck, let em fly, HAHAHa.... AS LONG as it is followed by a 'TRY THIS', or something of the sort, K?

I figure this is something that will enhance my ride/trips, enhance the worth of the beast(NO WAY am I selling it, just saying).... and IF it's mostly free/cheap to fix, ....well, then why not, right?

PS> Anyone have an extra WORKING Cruise Control Module(the big orange thing) I can try?

PSS> I hear ya, Baddest... and like I said, 'IT'S YOUR STUFF'! I am in no way telling you what to do with it, promise! lol. And, I hear ya on the 'REALLY SMALL TOWN, you don't get it', hahaha. I DO get it... been in plenty, seeing family in Ohio, TX, elsewhere. LOVE THAT, MISS THAT, WANT THAT SOME DAY AGAIN!

The little pockets that the door handles set into are called Bezels on ebay. Mine are all cracked and busted up. You can find them for the newer models, but not for our years.

With your Cruise Control, I not able to help with, but with it lighting up, at least it is getting something. I have only seen one or two in the boneyard. Dont think to many came out with them. I can understand wanting one. I want to install one myself and from seeing the boneyard selection might have to go after market.

Ahhh, the lil pockets, gotcha! Yeah, hard to find item. I will try to look up the site I know, soon as I have time tonight, ok Terry?

Far as the cruise control..... strange thing, today. A buddy came by, the guy who's helped me HANDS ON, SO MUCH, Andy(PROPS, MY BROTHA! YOU ROCK! lol)..... Anyway, he took the cruise control knob on the windshield wiper arm, the lever for Cruise on it, and clicked it forward, then double clicked it backward, and the cruise control light on the dash started flashing. Not sure what that means... maybe a code that it's faulty? Maybe it's just for "resume" or something? But it's GOT to be telling of something! GRRR! Lots of threads on here have brought it up..... never a resolution except for the 90 and up Runners, which have that Master Cyl electrical thingy! Even then, doesn't match my symptoms really. Mine just wont work! GRRRX2 lol.

PLEASE, if anyone comes across a thread, let me know? I'ma search more tonight.

thanx, grateful as always, Mark

Nobody? lol..... I'm hoping it's just a "Sunday" down time thing... but I know, ...it's not a common question or something people often bother to fix... 'sigh', lol ...Plus, I've posted this question a couple times... nada. I guess maybe I should start a thread on specialty things as well, then just update it here?

Hoping it's just the Sunday thing! lol.

Thanks, Zach, .... not many do, apparently, lol.

Terry, I really appreciate it, man! I just can't seem to find any good info on it, grrr! lol.

Chuckar, ....HEY MAN! Long time no talky, lol. Hope it mellows out for ya. I have Rock Pistons and Hastings-USA Rings. I was wondering about the Rock pistons... but my machinist/guide told me, "These are fine..... I don't like all their products, but the pistons are rated to last. Just be sure we get the right rings and bearings............. don't wanna be in there again for a LONGGGGG time, right?" lol. Of course, ....can't know I wont be in there again, ...but hopefully, I wont! lol.

Hello Chef.. I talked to you awhile back about the Ignition switches being difficult and found a link that some contacts wear out. As soon as I can get a to chance to get to the bone yard, I would like to find an 89-95 ignition. The one on my 91 has a heavier built key so am wondering if it has a heavier built ignition.

If you check under your cover it looks like it has the same ridge on it as my 91.

Link to faulty contacts https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...oblems-240334/

Might be an easy upgrade. My igniton is about to quit on me.

Here is a comparison between my two trucks.

88 Ignition

91 Ignition

88/91 keys

I will post links I find on cruise on this post and edit as I go.

If brake fluid is low, it will kick on the brake light, shutting off cruise. I know it is not a problem you have but it could be tied to it somehow.

Check brake light switch on pedal and parking brake switch see it it is coming up completely.

Would it be best to try and install it in the column? Or delete that and install the later model one in the dash of my 87? lol. Is the 91 key being longer going to make the cylinder that much longer? Maybe causing it to stick out of my column/make it impossible for the outer cone style washer to be included?....

sorry, I'm kinda confused here, lol. I still need to call JPDismantlers and see what they say.

I found a link for the cylinder for order with a 100$ price, OEM.... WTH? LOL. I guess it'd be a different key(maybe I could get MY key set done/cylinder ordered? Not sure, but I would MUCH rather have that newer set up/ kit!

Thanks, buddy,.... Man Terry, ....seems like the diaphragm, brake control portion or unit itself is to blame.... just no idea just yet how to check them all. I will update asap, as I find stuff out.

WAIT, sorry, the key is NOT longer, not the 'applicable' portion of the key, anyhow... So yes, if it would fit(the cylinder) then I would DEFINITELY try it! Just need one with a key, right? hahaha.

I am going to see if the key will work in stock location. I would be afraid that if I moved it I would lose steering wheel lock.

I have not found one set of keys in the trucks at the salvages here. When they buy them from insurance, I wonder why they dont provide keys. But they are ususally towed and owner will have key is my guess.

You are right about finding info on cruise control. Not much out there. That is the way it was on my ENG fuse. I found one little tidbit of info on the fuse, but was a common problem.

HEY GUYS, need seats, HELP!

SEATS! lol.....

My 87 4Runner, driver side seat, is TOAST! lol. The adjustable lumbar and reclining lever are DONE. The lumbar one is all bent and I can't even operate it, ..... the Reclining side lever seems as though something internal is toast, ...they wont work! lol(This is partly due to me having the speaker boxes back there, right up against the seat, then I forget some times and try to recline and that box resists/tweaked something, I KNOW IT. I will remedy that, move the speakers, whatever, but for nowwwwwwwww?>>>)

I found a 2005 Scion TC, Leather Gray Seats for 100$ for the pair....

1. Is that a good deal?(I'm assuming it is, ... considering year, wear, leather)
2. Will I need to cut/drill like a banshee to make these fit??????

I WANT EM, bad, cuz I've been uncomfy on long trips for a while(the butt part and somewhat on the sides, too, is worn out, cutting into my ribs)... Plus, now, the driver side one is taking a dump!

I want em, but if the 93-95 4Runner seats are more easily dropped in, then I'd go for that, instead. In that case, I would try Pick-u-part, maybe go with some dimensions in hand, and get an even more comfy seat .....IF I KNEW WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! lol

I see lots of threads on "what will fit in my 85, 86, 87, 88, 89 4Runner" ...... but the only swap that seems fairly simple is the Second Gen 4Runner one. I know Scuba dropped Scion Seats in his rig and he loves em... but that's a short bed, standard cab pick up..... Mine needs to slide forward quite a bit so people can get in the back seat, ya know? I would even like seats that roll forward even further.... don't care about heating, etc., ...and wonder on the 'seat belt warning' in the dash, as a concern for 'ANNOYANCE'(this is where Ian and others whom are GR8 with electronics could really help! lol)

ANY input would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS> VERY IMPORTANT...... I'm not the skinniest guy, true... but more importantly, I'm around 54" in the chest/ribs/very wide shoulders... this makes for VERY PAINFUL cutting into my floating rib/Scapula's, while driving in the CRV, .... and those seats are not bad. If the Scion Seats are like that, I'll let you know, but for now, I can only just look at stuff til I get the 'GET THOSE, TRUST ME, HERE'S MY THREAD, DUMMY' type posts! lol.

Seats well I'm not familiar with the scion seats, I would measure yours and just compare. I have 86 Mazda 626 seats in mine and they actually mounted with only minor tweaking, just my 2 cents

I'm not familiar with the Scion seats, but you can make just about any seat fit. Easier if you get manual adjusting ones of course.

I think 100 bucks is a fair price, I paid 100 bucks for my first set of 2nd gen 4runner buckets I swapped into my 3rd gen. I had them for about 2 weeks before I found an ad for free 1985 MR2 seats. They were swapped out of the car for buckets when they were hardly used at all and sat for years in this guy's parent's garage. I just had to come get em, so the deals are out there, it just takes time to find them.

I'm a taller guy, so I needed seats low down so I could get some more head room.
They're hugely adjustable and I love them, on top of that they are really light.

I opted not to drill holes in my floor, so I used the original mounting holes and put some new studs that stick up out of the floor using this stock steel.

If you feel like spending money, these cannot be beat for comfort, they are fabulous offroad in a bumpy solid axle sprung truck. My only regret is not getting the low back version with the head rests separate, then I could scoot the seat back further because of the way the headrest part tilts back. I'm considering modifying them with my highlift hehe. As far as ease of mounting, you just buy the corbeau bracket and they bolt right in, I cut the legs down and redrilled them so I would sit lower, but that's just my preference.

My bro and I used to swap in camry (1st gen maybe 2nd gen) seats, they almost bolt directly in iirc. They are not sporty type seats and seem a bit wider then celica or mr2 buckets. Still a nice seat. You can find camrys everywhere.
