Cruise control diagnosis - 87 4runner (PICTURES)
My cruise control doesn't work, When I press the button on the dash the light turns on over the top of the button, but the controls on my steering wheel for setting speed and lowing the speed neither work. Where should I start? I bought the truck like this too
EDIT
So I've checked just about everything and now its down to the rubber peice in my cruise control servo

start under the hood. the servo that sits between your clutch master and your coil. open it up. the rubber diaphragm cracks over time, thus no vacuum and no cruise. seal it up with some fipg. reassemble and reinstall. 90% chance this is your problem.

well, pic turned out like crap, but you can see the circle in the upper right hand corner.
Mark it so you know how to align later, pry the tabs to separate, take note of how to reassemble, the seal up with fipg will be obvious.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (not really familiar with 4 cyl turbo) but my '87 didn't have the cruise controls on the steering wheel, they were on the control stalk. I am wondering if your truck has a transplanted 2nd gen steering wheel? and this is why the controls do nothing?

Good catch dude. I guess I just assumed he meant the column switch. I guess we will see.

The big square light is a courtesy light so you can see the ignition in the dark. Should light up when you open and your door.
And without running out to look that sounds right. Down to set/decrease up to speed up.
Nice looking 4runner btw.

EDIT: Hey, now that I think of it. Is it possible that this light doesn't work for the same reason my cab light doesn't work when set to DOOR? I tried tracing the wire for that light with no luck of finding were it ends.

indeed that is definitely a possibility. see if you can't track down that door sensor wiring as well.
What else you working on?? I had to fix a bunch of little stuff on mine when I picked it up a couple years back, I might be able to help with some shortcuts there, too.

Okay, So I got the servo out and taken apart, I know you said fipg to seal it but I have no idea what that is. is there anything else you would recommend that I could pick up at a local automotive shop?

FIPG = Toyota's Form In Place Gasket, basically a good silicone sealant. The Right Stuff is similar, but most anything would work. You could see if the servo will hold a vacuum or not. They basically are a rubber diaphram and then two valves inside, one opens to the engine vacuum (to pull the diaphram and cable in) the other lets air in (lets the cable out).

Okay so I sealed it up with all purpose 100% Silicone and folded the outer ring back into place and now its going to sit all night and hopefully when I put it back in the morning it will work. I'm going to rig the connector with my battery to test it and see if it holds vacuum.

Checked all the vacuum lines too I assume. I see you didn't use too much sealant, sure you got all the cracks sealed up?

on a non turbo 22re where does the cruise actuator pull its vacum from. i do not see anything in the manual. mine is connected to the check valve coming off of the dash pot and i just wanted to verify that is the correct spot. my cruise is inop as well on my 87 and this is where it was connected when i purchased the truck.

Typically from one of the 3 ports on the rear intake fitting:

And the dash pot line has nothing to do with vacuum:
