omg Terry, thats so funny u mentioned that...

fuel filter and carter pump under the hood. The filter is mounted temporarily with a zip tie, im still contemplating taking everything out of the engine bay and painting it but i don't know if I have the skill to take the motor out and all that... That may be later.

Gas tank before and after

Since i had the bed off for the frame, i decided to clean the tank inside and out, and try to get the rust off the fuel line lid thing. This is proving more difficult than i thought lol. The lid had lots of rust, so i gave it a vinegar bath and noticed jb weld on the inlet pipe. Of course, it came off and there are 2 holes or slits rather where it leaks. Im hoping maybe i can solder it or i might just use the straight tube instead. Any thoughts? I checked rock auto where i get most of my oem parts and can only find the gaskets. I can't find a replacement so I'm outta ideas there. I know a junk yard would probably have rusty stuff too.

LOL..That looks like a much better filter then the stock one and easier to get to. You might be surprised at what just removing one component at a time and giving it a good scrubbing and how it would look better.

I have removed motors and painted the engine bay but it is some serious work doing that. I would only do that if I was planning on it being down for some time. I dont blame you for wanting to hold out on that.

Outside door handle to latch rod (linkage)

This has been the single most pain in the @$$ for me so far. Finding another one of these... I was told to check the junkyard by many folks so before I left, I took the panel off of my passenger side and checked it out. As far as i can tell, there is no way to get that rod out. U can disconnect it from the top by taking it out of that rod clip. But the bottom part seems like its in there permanently. U cant just slip it off and that striker looking thing doesn't come out. I actually talked to a buddy of mine that is a toyota tech and he said you have to buy the entire (door latch assembly) which is only 130.00!!!! on rock auto. Which is out of stock lol. Good thing it was cuz i would have bought it already and then kicked myself in the @$$ later. So this is what i came up with.

Outside door handle to latch rod

ya one of these

cut a piece off and made that notch for the latch to move freely when opening the door from the inside.

this was a long screw so i cut it 6" Its only about 5 inches from the handle to the latch but i had to make a couple bends so i made it an inch longer. Then I fine tuned it before welding it to the other part.

not quite 1/4 thick, a little less. .206" exactly. Sorry for the bad orientation.

comparing it to the other one so i could measure it up and mark where i need to bend it.

time to weld

before i bent it

welded and primed

finished product

installed

so a few questions maybe a few of you can help me with. Here is the video i uploaded to youtube. The slot i made is too wide, any smaller and I wouldn't have been able to slip it over the latch or striker thing. So I stuck a grommet in there but it keeps popping off. Anything you can think of to get it to stay there and still be a little loose. I'm also having a hard time keeping it in at the top. The piece i made is working well, its just how to fasten it is where i have the problem. I was thinking about maybe using something like this

Some updates

Well i've done quite a bit more to the truck and I will be posting some steps I took to get where I am now. I'm not so scared to do "stuff" anymore and I'm starting to get a little more comfortable with the truck. This pic shows that I got rid of the stock heater hoses, I replaced my heater core, I'm using these awesome hose clamps made by Gates that are like super strong heat shrink, I'll explain in my next couple videos. I got new spark plug wires, someone commented on my old ones saying they weren't the correct ones, and that was correct. I will be posting on how I fixed my locking hubs, wheel bearings, etc... Replaced lug studs and a few studs on my locking hub.
