Tomorrow morning I am driving about an hour n half to pick up a good set of 33 x 12.50 x 15 bfg all terrain tires! I'm pretty excited about it! I have already presold my rims and tires so that will help off set the cost. The bfg's come with a set of decent rims that are for a Jeep. So those will be sold as well. I will post pictures when I get the tires. I also did some trading with a fellow Toyota guy. I gave him my AFM for a 3vze since his was bad and causing problems. In return I got a hitch and a front valance since mine is dented. More updates soon!

 

The hitch will come in handy.

 

What kind of rims are you thinking about getting for the 33s? When my 32s wear out, I'm selling my rims and getting another set of Outlaw 2s (or 70s slotted mag wheels...maybe) in 15x8 with the correct backspacing to put on a set of 33s.

 

I got the rims and tires today! Rims will be sold. If they were 6 lug rims I would keep them because they are nice looking American racing. But oh well. I had to drive 80 miles to pick them up but it was worth it. I had a spare set of rims in the back so I will put the 33s on them. The junk tired on the rims will have to be taken off so the new tires can go on. I will clean up the rims and put some new paint on it

I loaded up all 8 tires in the back of the truck and went to go switch them out.

 

So people have all the luck...

Ya I liked them too. Oh well. I'm going to sell them and make some money back. Im ok with that too. I got the tires mounted today. Tomorrow I will get them painted and put them on the truck. Can't wait!

Don't see many people run bfg's on here, not sure why, i kinda like mine. Even if they are practically bald, though it could be i have a cheap source.(he said he was sure he could up with something equally amicable for 30"s) Do tell us what you think after you get a chance to run them for a while.

 

I used to have a set of all terrains in a different truck and I loved them. Good on road manners and traction in rain and snow, with great grip in dirt off the road. Probably not the best mud tire but that's OK. They are exactly what I need as a daily driver/ weekend warrior, dual use kind of truck. These will be the biggest tire I have ever owned. So I am curious to see how my truck will respond with the new tires. From the research I have done, my 4.56 gears should be perfect for these tires. I am also curious to see what happens to my gas mileage. I drove almost 200 miles today to get these tires and then to get them mounted. I used about half a tank of fuel. All in all I think its pretty good mileage

I don't know about those 4.56s i ran 5.29 with my 35"s. That had decent go, and excellent low range. I mean it wasn't a sports car, but then wven my 4.10 with 30"s isn't, but i could cruise at 70, got about 16-18 mpg on a really good day i reckon. That was a 22re though. With a 3.slow i havbe no clue what good mileage would be. 200 miles to half a tank is just about what i'm getting right now, though i'm not sure on the tank size.

Ain't that the truth! I have been getting about 17 mpg with my truck. Can't complain with my 3.go!

My current tires are 265 75 r 16 which are basically 31s. Just like everyone else has done when they get new tires, I put the new tires against the old tires to see the difference. The 33s are definitely taller and wider. I broke out the tape measure to find out how much. The bfg's measured 32 x 10 and the current good years measured 30 x 8. I found it funny that a 33 inch tire measures 32 inches.

Tonight I am going to paint the rims and put them on my truck. Then I will clean up my rims and paint them black and put them on the 87. Busy busy busy!

These are the tools I used to clean up the rims. Worked great, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Drying overnight. Another coat tomorrow. Then I will install them.


I would have got more done, but the cruiser was acting up. I had to change the battery to starter cable and 3 fusible links. Starts much better now. Happy wife happy life. And what's one more night to wait.

 

Good deal!!! Looks like you had better luck than me trying to adjust my tps last night!! Fusible links can be hard to find sometimes.

 

Sorry about the tps man. I've been reading that whole saga...... sounds like a big pain. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about the rims and tires or the cruiser starting better than it has since I've owned it. The starter cable seemed to be the main problem but the 3 fusible links seemed to have some cracks in them as well, so I just changed everything. So tonight I will paint another coat on the rims and install them! Can't wait!

 

Looks good, but why wouldn't you recommend that method of cleaning the tires if it worked well?

 

I could never get the wire wheel centered or balanced on the grinder. So it shook like hell and was really hard to hold. And if I hadn't been wearing thick welding gloves I probably would have taken my fingers off a few times. Safety glasses are a must as well. All in all it was a little dangerous but effective. I had each rim cleaned up under 5 minutes per rim.

 

Worked well but very risky. So probably smart to come up with another method.

They look good. Anxious to see them without tape.
