Not sure it would be a bad idea to call Scotty or Yotamasters or maybe even TLC?

Scotty at Addicted Offroad?

They messed up my bumper order by accident. I'm happy they did too, I really like the squared stinger.

Makes the wagon look a bit more grown up.

Who is TLC?

Thanks buddy.

Edit//

Just popped off an email to Yotamasters, see what they have to say.

Eric Hansen at Yotamasters got back to me and said about me using the stock axle housing.

"Not unless you retube it and center the diff. If you relocate the gas tank, and try to use it with the offset center, it will vibrate badly. Very badly."

Looks like a custom housing is in my future. On the bright side, I can keep the stock fuel tank location and add in a fuel cel where the spare tire is supposed to go for extra range.

I don't want to have a very beefy front end without the rear matching.

With my upcoming move South I can get started once my garage is set up.

I've already picked an automotive school to go to as well. I can get those rust holes fixed and new paint done by the auto body students. It was one of my early questions. I can also work on my own vehicle in class.

I want to take the foundations course so I don't have massive gaps in knowledge. If I get an apprentice spot in a brake place for example I'll know brakes awesome but little else. With the foundation course which skips the 1st year I can look for work as a 2nd year apprentice.

I'm really excited to heal up and get at it. If I heal enough for scaffolding again I can save for the course and the truck build which I can do in class.

Hey Chef, I was going back through my thread and noticed you're the one who gave me the new forum name way back on page 3 or 4!

Nice one!

Hahahaa, had no clue.... also gave u Eric Hansen hints! Hahaha...... Good dude.

Why not go Rock Assault.... I heard they came out with all new stuff and you can get the complete assembly from end to end including axles for like 70 something. I know its in cabbage but it gives you a little bit more of a low profile rear and it's all your issue... If you look into that? does things are bad arse! I've heard they work out a lot of the issues like I said... You have to do your own research but I seriously thought about that.

Yeah I've seen those axles before housings before. I was hoping to not go so custom but it looks like it's unavoidable. However, if it is built strong enough my driveshaft will be the next weak link. I'd way rather break a driveshaft over my R&P or axle in a semi float.

I want to overbuild this thing for what I will use it for. I don't plan on beating the piss out of red. I'll push it and have fun but not abuse. One day perhaps I'll build a straight toy.

I loved that road trip last year. I want to be able to go further. Long range, tough dependable and able to take the odd jump here and there.

It looks like all the Rock Assualt ones use an 8" diff.

Maybe I can use the centre section and make my own or have it made?

Oh wow... dude I haven't seen your thread in the past few days. I didn't know you had that problem. Heck I didn't wven know the rear pumpkin was not centered for those axles. Wow. Looks like you have some major work ahead of you man.

And congrats on the classes. Maybe you guys will be able to customize your axle before you go to Australia? I dunno. Dang good luck with that one man. I feel for ya.

Maybe, Red.... or maybe Torq Axles?....

http://www.torqaxle.com/Custom-Axle-Builder_c_9.html

Or you can go this route which is definitely not a budget path... But definitely add everything up and think about it as this is probably not the past you would go but there might be other routes that would end up saving you some money.....

I would give Trail Gear call and see what they have cooking, or maybe if they have a recipe in the works that could suit you?

Move the fuel tank to where the spare tire is hung. That is the only way I can think of to fix your issue, or using a different axle????

It's not the fuel tank as much as driveline angle. Eric Hansen at Yotamasters said it would vibrate. I imagine it would too, it's not at a good angle and would get worse under articulation.

Looks like a custom rear end. I'll be in British Columbia long to see it get done for sure.

Maybe find an FJ80 housing somewhere and redo the spring perches. Probably the easiest and cheapest option. They have the same 9.5" R&P I believe.

The missus found this water crossing clip. I was told I'd be in a lot of trouble if I sink our truck with her in it.

This was in NSW, I'll get to wheel this area too when I head back to Oz.

Grrrrrrfunklestien! Lol..... I know thawed plan and time frame for "likelihood for completion"...... But I still excitedly clicked and hoped to see parts and bolts and sparks flying! Hahaha.....how's that for Toyotaticulitus? Hehehe.......

Cool vid, thanks for posting. The snorkel is in Ruby R3drum's future.....But considering the eventual impending motor swap...... I should wait to see which side it'll be on, yeah? Lol.

Yes you should. I'm still so torn. I've even thought about a newer V6. Have not done any research really other than that they have over 200hp.

Dang dude. I don't think I would ever do that in my truck. I'd be scared!

On a side note. You asked me to let you know how the 6" rear lift and 6" shackles feel/work with the both 4" springs and shackles up front. Just wanted to left you know that they are great man. Worked out perfectly man. Leveled everything out. And it drives very smooth still. TotallyIt isnt hard at all! Totally supports my heavy a$s rear end with the massive load that bumper has. I'm sure you would be set if you got that same set up since you plan to have a lot of gear on your expeditions.

We've got our hearts set on Chilliwack. Still country in areas but close to Vancouver. I've been gone since 04 and will be gone again in a few years. I'd like to be close to the people I care about.

I found a mechanic school in Surrey. I grew up there so know the drive is a bit long. After 12 hour days on mine sites sometimes doing 4 weeks and 1 off driving 2 to 3 hours a day for nine months will be cake. I think class goes from 8am to 2pm or 8pm to 3pm. It will be around 3 or 4 hours less than I'm used to.

Oh and did I mention it wont be scaffolding in a dirty plant at a big hole in the ground on the arctic tundra or the Australian desert? I'm excited.

Really depends on the back healing. I figure it will hurt sometimes while working but at least I'll be happy and in a profession with a much lower injury and fatality rate.

Eventually I expect it to fully heal if I stop beating on it.

On some truck news, did an oil change and put in new spark plugs. I tried out that Gunk oil flush. You run it for 5 minutes before and oil change. I also used an oil additive a mechanic up here swears by. You get a lot of crap in your engine up here. It's so dusty and extreme low temperatures. My buddy pulled the valve cover off his 22RE a year after a full rebuild, it was disgusting.

I didn't use the additive to hide a problem. Engine is running well just thought I;d give it a go. I posted a pic of it a page back.

One thing I discovered I hate about the 3VZE is changing the spark plug. Even after taking off the intake and moving my power steering reservoir it was a royal pain in the ass. My arms are scratched to ˟˟˟˟ and so are the back of my hands.

Glad it's done though. Truck is purring nicely. Cleaned the throttle body while I was at it. No pictures though. My buddy used the last of my mechanic rubber gloves so my hands where coated in oil and grime. He worked on his 1st Gen so it was a good hang out and wrench day.

He really should have a build thread but he's too lazy to type. He's done lots of cool little things to his. He also just filled his rear fenders with foam and bondo to make them look whole again. He wants fiberglass but is saving up still. Even though it's not ideal he's moving back to BC as well and they might fail if over the rusted out fender edge around the wheel well.

Geez tell me about It. Spark plugs are the worst! I use a swivel on the spark plug socket to remove on some. That helps. But that far back passenger side spark plug near the firewall is by far the worst!

Yeah I dropped one but it didn't go far on that plug. Took awhile of trying before we got it out.

Are the other larger Toyota engines that annoying to work on for basic maintenance?

Not sure. Only ones I've ever worked on was my previous trucks 22r and my corollas 1.8L. This is the first v6 I've ever owned. Lol maybe one of the others can better answer you on that.
