Well alot of what you are hearing is my buddy scotts runner with headers and a magnaflow... but you can hear me revving that 3.4l pretty good!

The first run i did by him was way sicker.. i was driving it harder and throwing snow everywhere apparently.. didn't get that one on tape though.

Have you ever been hassled by CHP for no rear bumper?
I have been stopped twice. In Humboldt they seem to look for it

Ive been pulled over for no mud flaps and no front plate.. but they are on there now..

Trucks you don't need bumpers apparently so idk why your getting hassled.

giving it in the old 4runner hey haha love the snow pics man

8.4 tacoma

- Carrier bearing truss and newer housing adds significant strength over V6 and 4cyl diffs
- Uses V6 carrier bearings, larger pinion bearings
- Uses shims for backlash adjustment instead of threaded adjusters
- Twelve 12mm Ring gear bolts
- 10mm axle housing studs with 14mm nuts
- 30 splilne axles
- 30 spline pinion

Above you can see that the 8.4 has a stronger housing, larger bearings, larger pinion, more and larger ring gear bolts, larger housing studs/nuts, and trusses to stop deflection between the pinion and ring gear.

i quoted this from whorkrz and this seems to be realy stong? just thought i would mention this

Yes the 4cylinder carriers are weaker than the v6's.. ive never personally heard anyone having problems with either.. but yea im sure the 40's and the 3.4 had a bunch to do with it..

lol. I was looking for this exact question and found it on the first thread and first page I looked at here on Yotatech. Good deal.

140$ - Did that include the carrier and everything?

I'm picking up a 4cyl. 529 geared diff in carrier with new bearings today for $230. I thought it was a good deal but $140 sounds better lol. Oh, I'm only running 37's in the 3.slow so I don't think mine will shred like yours did. lol. Its not even gunna be locked for a lil while. Moneys tight for me right now. But that's ok I'll just go and get

Well the first replacement diff i bought (the one i broke the carrier in half) i got for $180 and it was welded. No clue who set it up nor the condition.

The one i just bought was for $140 off a friend of a friend, and it is welded, said a local 4wd shop set it up most likely.

Hmm yeah that's still a good deal. lol. I picked mine up last night for $230 but the guy I found on craigslist was really nice and works at west coast differentials in rancho cordova. He replaced all the bearings himself and meshed the gears and it is really clean. So I just gotta bolt it up and I'm good. lol. It was hard enough for me to find the diff I need in the hills.

Oh and I have the 2nd gen 4runner too and I'm putting in the 4cyl. diff which doesn't have the ABS sensor hole in it. I was just wondering what did you do with yours?

I did not realize there was that much snow up there already. the wife and I may have to go up and get a tree not much changed on my end. still runnin 31's for now. If I take this job that was offered I may finish it. not sure. job requires me to be down in the desert for a year but pays bank. just not sure I want to be away from the wife and kid that much. Let me know when your going up and I will atleast go as far as I can.

Oh ok. I was thinking about using a zip tie to keep it up too lol. Did your ABS light come on though? If so what did you do with that? I was thinking about just taking the dash apart and removing the bulb.

I want to get that kit eventually.. I'd look around because you may find a set up used. I haven't actually heard much about the kit but rear disc brakes is so nice. You would probably never have a problem with braking again as far as everything is in working order and set up right.

Mine are really squishy but I have some problems to work out. lol. I'd get that kit for sure though. I think its worth it.

IDK if yall have heard of the disk conversion using Toyota parts, but it seems cheaper to me. Use the front calipers and disks off of any 1979-1985 SFAs. It takes a little bit of fab, but all in all, its not too bad.

Here's a VERY detailed write-up on it - http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=452546

My brother just did this swap on his 93 4Runner that he is building up and hopefully this works out well.
