You don't have a bucket o bolts(Toyota ones, precisely) laying around? Dangit! I hit the yard up every time I go.... "5$, go help yourself!" ... so I have, .. even to whole timing cover sets that I mark by number related to sheet, lol. Starter bolts, bellhousing bolts, valve cover bolts for the vsv's... C'mon, ...you can't find ANYTHING there, man? I feel really bad for ya to have to stand still and wait. Can't one of the homies on here give you a size and thread pitch and you can grab it at Lowes?????

that's what i'm hoping for too mark......just don't want the "search" thang to be barked out at me.
rebuild on mine, had nothing left over. we do have 1 bolt left over from the EGR bracket but it's too short. may steal the one off my truck if it's the same size, i will cross-reference it.
any ideas on getting the catalytic convertor connection apart? the bolts just pass right through , right? if i knock the heads off i should be able to get something to happen i assume, right?

because the new one, the bolts just pass through it
(never mind the shoe....that pic is from the other day messing around with Logan)

hehehehe.
going to try getting that catalytic connection apart today and maybe mock-up the exhaust for sizing and see if I have to make any cuts. got an exhaust kit from a friend so i could cut the pipes if needed.

once again, moving along much slower than i had hoped. the rusted bolts on the connection to the catalytic convertor are the hold-up today.
end result....the connector is off...what it left behind was the bolts still in the holes minus their heads. still have some sort of nut on them, though it's not recognizable.
on with the pics:
the enemy

the challenger

OK...got that off

but still left behind a mess

for which all this comes into play...and YES, you see a fire extinguisher....was having some molten metal, heavy smoking stuff kinda time drilling out the bolt.

one side finished, taking a break and the going to start on the other side. going to take the grinder to the mating surface and get it good.

OK...break time over. over.

well.
that's enough of that.
need Brandon's real drill bits. mine have all dulled and and / or broken. was using oil too, and going slow. this is getting to be a bit much struggling at every turn.
boo.

you've got issues alright.
meh on the drill bits.......was using the Black and Decker 4 billion piece drill bit set that is just a bunch of junk apparently.
done for the day.spent waaaaaay too much time on this today, and yesterday for that mater. got alot accomplished, just need to drill one hole. how hard could that be?

I had a torch....gave it away.
I have no way of punching it out. if i had a drill press that i could mount sideways, that'd be perfect.
done with this today. very sore from holding that sawzall for about 30 minutes and using the drill. hey, at least we got 1 1/2 holes drilled.
time to go in the pool and not worry about this crap.

YES, SWIM IT AWAY MY FRIEND! lol.
BTW, I didn't mean use a press... smartypants, lol. I just meant get it hot, drill on it, then put a punch up to it and rap on it to force the threads of the bolt flat.... I probably don't understand the physics of where this thing is or how it's sitting(leverage, etc.). Was just a thought. I just picked up a benzomatic the other day for this very reason, ....Actually, cuz I lent mine to someone and never got it back(he's in Jail, lol)
PS> If you got it hot enough, could you put a LARGE C-clamp on there with the punch under one arm of the c-clamp and the other arm on the flange and then start cranking? Again, sorry if that's just silly, lol... Just wanting you to KILL IT! LOL.

BTW....here's a refresher pic so you can see what side I am having issue with. .....I think the only thing that made it so that the nut and the flange are not one molten piece is that little waste of a flange piece you see in the middle of the pic. serves no useful purpose either.

thanks Mark....for the compliments, encouragement and just helping me out frequently.
glad the weekend is over actually. kinda busted up, very sore. very sore. my neck especially....and that's not a good thing (long story).
anyway....one of the major issues happening is the inability to hold that catalytic converter still. it's swaying to and fro and back and forth. i have a jack-stand under it.....i've tied it off, but still has movement. not much we can do about it either.

Oh, I figured that, was just messing myself.
Have you tried chaining it from both sides to create a stalemate type resistance(along with the stand of course) ?
I mean, if you're not going to heat it up, maybe you could even use some REALLY heavy duty ratchet straps like i have. I held the head down while swapping cams tight enough to not have any leaks. Not sure if it would physically work, ...I'd have to see pics of the 3.0 Set up and yours in particular, ..but I would imagine that if you can pull from both directions FIRMLY, using the frame rail or something on both sides to pull.... wouldn't that hold it pretty solidly still? Maybe also put a block or something above the cat and then jack upward instead of stands on the bottom, to aid in stability? Kinda a 4 point draw/quarter and compress thingy? lol.
