Wanting to swap is not a problem.
What is keeping you from doing what you want is the problem.
What is your problem?

There you go!
If I were to do a swap, I would do a 3.4. Toyota reliability, more than enough power and compact enough for that gen's weight and size, and electrical should be simpler to convert, being from same manufacturer.
I suggest you look at 3.4 installs on the forum. I saw a picture of it in a first-gen 4runner and it does not look as cramped as a 3.0.
I don't think there's any issue with the transmission.
The rear suspension of course may have sagged, but there are lots of solutions discussed in this forum. Use the "google" search option, not the "post" or "thread" search. The latter two are lame.

Drag racing?
Rock crawling?
Mudding?
Show truck?
Daily driver?
For a show truck that gets 200 miles a year, sure, drop a 350 in it
For a daily driver that gets thousands of miles a year, I like the 4 cyl for it's reliability
