I'm having my crank reground, got new pistons, rings, new head from engnbldr. also getting new main and rod bearings and in a few weeks i should have my 22re finnished. A+ engine machine shop in Reno, is doing all the major work.
1. Engine Degrease
2. Magnaflux the block
3. Bore 0.020'' over & Hone
4. Regrind the crank

I'm just glad you went this route instead of doing what i did and went with a bad company like Attarco in Sac. Apparently my qoute on qoute "new engine" was merely just a used motor with a hone job and new head. My engine had cylinder bores were 0.012" over stock and the pistons were like 0.015" undersize from the stock specifications. So were in a race to get our engines put in. Lol

Nice engine Hoist by the way!
nice man, you get it running last weekend?

heres a little update.

empty engine bay

wiring

new harness

new engine

threw a little paint on it

cleaned most of the baked on mud off the header

engine bay cleaned and a little paint

wiring stripped

in with the new

old stuff

engine in

broke this in the process

also dropped a bolt in the bellhousing through the starter hole, so i had to unbolt the transmission and driveshaft and move it back a few inches just to get the bolt

thats where im at, lights, wipers, stereo, all that stuff works. turn the key, fuel pump, fuel gauge, gauge cluster lights work. but no crank. i still have to ground everything.

Play with your timing and see what happens. When my buddy and I threw a new 22RE in his rig, it was hard to start and was stuttering, had to play with the gas to keep it running. Full throttle was 1000 rpms Turns out his distributor was off by a tooth. Moved it over and it ran perfect. Truck is looking real good by the way!

Sputtering? I'd point to TPS first... Just MHO. Always check for codes first, after driving it around a bit..... Then test the 'FREE CHECKS' first, right? lol. ........>>>>> TPS, AFM, 02, CTS, Timing, Unmetered Air.... etc.

Best wishes, and GREAT JOB, HB!
