Got all the powder coating done. Still a lot to learn with that. And the HF gun I have pretty much sucks. But I tell ya, I don think I am going back to rattle cans. Powder coat is really cheaper in the long run, much more durable.

Pics are kind of crappy off my cell phone.

The valve cover, plenum, and intake have a coat of clear on them. It turned out ok, but still some to learn on applying clear powder.

The exhaust manifold was done with high temp flat powder. I probably won't spend the money on it again. It is not very durable. I think I'll try ceramic next time.

My orders from EB and LCE came in tonight, so I was able to get a start on getting the engine back together.

I'll coat the EGR bypass from the back of the head tomorrow. I also really like the copper manifold gasket from LCE. it is only a few more dollars than a stock one, and I think it will seal much better.

If I can get a fewe hours on it tomorrow I should be able to get the engine wrapped up.

What not great on this truck? Great job. Looks better every time I see it. I know you go a lot of time on the detail work and it shows.

I love powder coating. I also have the horrible freight gun, not the greatest but it does the job. Wish I had an oven, been using a large toaster oven. It's been great for small parts I've been doing for my bike.

Key to powder coating is prep work and a good gun.
HF gun is useless almost.
Eastwood has good guns from cheap to zonks!

Thanks man, I am sure I'll be a little worried at first.

Thanks Terry, the little stuff keeps me busy while I'm waiting to get the important stuff done. Keeps me out of the house too. I've been keeping up on your new project too. Good work. I'm going to follow your lead on my next project.

Horrible freight, I love that. Yeah the gun is not much, but it does get the job done. I picked up an old house oven, and wired it so I could plug it into the welder outlet. And horrible freights powder is not to bad either. And it's cheap.

Thanks man, it's not as pretty close up. The colors are miss matched, some painted, some powder coated, some powdered with clear. But as long as it holds up I guess.

This is the thread that I WILL be using to build my truck. I have PCS'd (permanent change of station) to Japan and will be here for the next four years, but when I get home it will be game on and this guide to perfection will be my reference. Absolutely beautiful build. I would call it a restoration...with improvements...

Thanks for the kind words man. I wish you the best of luck with these next two years. I did a 2 year tour to Japan from 07-09. I enjoyed it a lot, the family came over once and spent 2 weeks. I would go back again, but it is not in the cards for me. I'm in my 19th year now, and have waited my whole career to be able to start a project like this. I am glad you are enjoying it. Save all that COLA while you are over there, this has not been a cheap endeavor.

I took the day off from the runner, had to put a different starter in my sons 94, the brushes are going out, so I slapped a spare it until I can rebuild this one.

My brother-in-law is deployed to Afganistan and my siter-in-law wanted to do something for him, so we powder coated the tins on his 78 iron head sportster. We still need to do the rear fender, but I am going to have to expand the oven to get it in.

Here a pic, I think she enjoyed it, and learned a little.

Where were you in Japan? I am in Okinawa at Kadena AB, and I am really enjoying it! I am a Crew Chief on the F-15C (previously a Strike Eagle guy at Seymour Johnson). I will definitely be saving and planning the whole time I am over here. As for it not being cheap, at least you will have a new 4Runner at the end of it all...heck, it will probably even have the "new car smell"...last but not least, thanks for your service.

I have only been here a month or so, but I definitely plan on catching hops everywhere I can. EOD, thats pretty hardcore. At one time I considered cross training into AF EOD. Don't think my wife would go for the sales pitch on that one though. Take care and keep up the awesome work!

Powder coat looks good. If you need any stock sporty parts and some minor aftermarket parts let me know. I have a garage full of them from my bros bike tank, bars, seat, chrome apes......... the list goes on. We built two bikes this summer.

Sometimes it is nice to take a break and work on something else. That keeps it for something to look forward to when you get the chance.

Hopw your brother in laws tour goes quick. Things are looking good on the powder coating.
