Yeah man I knew it was supposed to weld to the spring perch. But the way the truss was cut if I would have done that I would have had to cut and piece in a few pieces of sheet metal at the diff. With the truss on the bottom I think it will be fine for what I do goodveye though.
I the engine bay is done know. All I have left to do is hammer out a hew battery tray.

Picked up my head on Monday, I need to order a cam, head gasket kit and a few other things from EB this week. Then I can get the engine ready to put in.
I tried my hand at powder coating tonight. I coated the power steering pulley. It came out pretty good I will take a pic and post it tomorrow. Deffinately going to have make some sort of small both to catch the powder though.

Yeah slacker I did. One day I remembered how my mom cleaned the hard water build up out of our coffee pots. Straight white vinegar. So I filled it up and let it sit a few days. Then just rinsed it out. Came out almost like new.
Thanks for all the complements guys it really helps to keep me going. I got the battery tray hammered out tonight and installed. I'll take a pic and post tomorrow. It was to dark for the camera tonight.
Next step before I get into the engine is to reseal the front window. I'll fix any rust and paint while I'm doing it. Then on to the engine, tranny and TC.

WOW..just wow
at your attention to detail! When finished, it will be pretty much as clean as it was, when new in '85! Off topic(kinda) question..what did you do with the OME 2" lift & how did it ride/handle? I'm building a DD '85 pickup 4x4 & want to lift it just enough to run 33x 10.50's (without scrubbing) & mild/moderate offroading, yet still maintain good mileage. I think 2" of lift along with 1" of body lift(I'm going to a 4.3/700R4 drivetrain) should give enough clearance for 33's..can you shed any insight? Thanks,Sleepr71.

Thanks sleeper, I sold the OME lift. Used that money on the runner. The ome lift road fine. I would recommend u get a 3" or above lift, as it is turf to go high steer with the 2" lift. And trust me u will want the high steer. Also go ahead and the the HD springs they will break in nicely and you will need them with the future 4.3 anyway. Pass on their shocks, order a set of bilsteins and you will be set.
Not much going on with runner money is sort, I have had a few other projects and now hurricane Irene is over top of us. Later and good luck

Well I was a little up in the air as to weather to finishbthe drive train, or the body. So I took a little time to just get my head together and finally decided that I had better use the warm weather to finish the body. Got a good start on it in the last few day. The front windshield is out. There was some pretty good pitted rust areas, but nothing that needed to be cut out. So I started a phosphoric acid treatment on the window sill. Probably one more day of the phosphoric treatment and it will be ready for primer.
Also got a good start on DA'ing the body. I'll post picks tomorrow. I hope to be ready for epoxy by the end of this Holliday weekend.
While I was trying to decide on the next route to go on the runner, I got my home powder coating seat up running. Seem to be doing pretty good at it
I coated my Sky Manufacturing E-brake set

An extra clutch pedal assembly

And one of my belt pulley beakers

Well the old runner is finally in color, I used I combination of Southern polyurethane epoxy and PPG epoxy. Because I ran out of the SPI epoxy. For color I used PPG JAU single stage acrylic urethane, in Cambrian Gray. I really like the color, and I think it will look great once the removable top is painted black. My body work could have been a little better, but I am good with it. Especially since this is my first time doing any real body work. There is a little orange peal in the paint, but nothing that won't buff out.

I bought three quarts of paint, put three good coats on the truck, and still have about a quart left for future touch ups.
