SPC Mike's 1985 Toyota Pickup Build Up Thread- 3/11/11

Well, i guess i will do a build up thread starting now, because i am going through a motor rebuild for a second time and i plan on making future trail/rock crawler mods soon after, so what a better time than now to document it! My truck is a mostly stock 1985 Pickup with 22r, 33's, ARB front bumper, 10k winch, Marlin rear bumper, and other little stuff like Mar-Link steering rod, V6 brakes and booster, 140 amp Power Master alt, Taurus E-Fan, yellow top optima ect. let the pictures begin...

Motor is out of the truck and block should be back in my hands by early next week. Big Thanks to Couger69 for letting me borrow his cherry picker!

Piston # 2 actually cracked all the way through from the force of it smashing the valve pieces into the head!

Since i have all that free room under the truck right now i decided to get under there to shave the Torque rod bracket off the axle along with the steering stabalizer and sway bar tabs. Now it will be ready for when i brace it later on.

Also shaved the torque rod bracket off the frame because that will be in the way of the high steer box and plating later.

lookin good man, did you get my message about the axle housing, i think mines gona be good the way it is after the repair, so you can use the housing to modify it. it may not have the lower truss but with the upper welded on it would be good.
good thing you decided to rebuild, would have never seen that piston crack. I am gona get some gears and have my elocker regeared soon!!!!

OK, got my block and crank back on Friday from Ron's Machine shop. I ended up picking it up from Auto Machine Specialties and taking it to Ron's because they were slacking big time on the machine work :nonono:....they had it for almost three weeks! :tantrum: and Ron's finished it in about a day and a half! :clap2: but anyways.... i Painted it and pressed the new freeze plugs in today so i am just waiting on my new King bearing for the bottom end and my head to ship out from Putney's Next week Then we can really get roll'n :wink2:

Ill take some pics pretty soon. But the setup kits are just the v6 setup kits...still need to order those big "locker side" bearings from that web site you were talking about. Did you ever get yours in the mail?

Hey thanks 86 toy. I hope it hold up and doesn't start chipping. But right now it looks awsome...and C0ugar69 here are some pics of the markings that are on the gears..... They are Genuine Yukon's, not like some that have said they got some with questionable markings in a Yukon box.
