fuel gauge wont read full but still functions
1985 toyota 4wd 22re 5 speed and all that stuff. Anyways last time I was wheeling i slid off a rock and slammed the rear end on the bump stops hard. Shortly after i noticed my truck said it was at half a tank when it shouldve been down maybe an 1/8th of a tank. Long story short, my gauge will read empty but then ill fill it up and get only 9 gallons, and i have em fill til its pourin out. And even after filling, the gauge only reads slightly below 3/4ths of a tank. So whats exactly wrong and how do i go about fixing it? All the issues ive read on this only talks about the gauge not working at all so i have tried researchin myself.

The sending unit is variable resister as the float moves it changes the resistance which moves the gas gauge .
The fact it is old your little bump may have been enough to cause things to move. Did you hit the fuel tank at all??
Depending just where you live dropping the tank and pulling the sending unit out and attempting to repair it could be a major project.
I know I bought a new sending unit(87) but it has been a few years.
I live with a fuel gauge that does not work I just fuel up every 125 miles or so.

Ya thats what ive been reading i was just curious if it may have been somethin easier. I didnt hit my tank as far as i know, my rear end has about 2"s of up travel before my bumpstops and it hit extremely hard. Lowcog problems i guess haha
