richf 1985 4runner build-up thread

I figured since I have been posting the hell out of the tech section I would stop and make a build thread to keep it all in one place. The truck is going to be mostly for hunting, fishing and playing in the mud and trails. We don't have any rock crawling trails close to me on the east coast like you CA boys do. Here are some pictures cause everyone loves pictures.

Here's a link to the paint thread.

This weekend I should have the tail gate primed and paint, monsta liner rolled on and the top painted black. I also have to install my stereo and speakers (still haven't figured out how I'm going to do that one yet)

I'm working on trying to get my heater to work again. Right now it comes out regular ambient temperature. I'm going to flush everything with the garden hose. Any other ideas? What do you guys think about getting the radiator flush from prestone?

I flushed everything and filled her up with water to test it out. I can now bake cookies inside the cab with this heater. On a serious note you really need to get all the air out of the system to get the heater to work properly.

Thanks. I plan on getting rid of the birds and going with some pitbulls 35 x 14.50 or a 35 x 12.50 BFG. The birds ride like ˟˟˟˟ and rattle the hell out of the truck.

Painted the interior today. I went with krylon fusion satin brown and satin black. It was the closest match to the original Color as I could find. I almost went with khaki but thought it would be to much of the same color. I'm going to let it sit until Friday and then reassemble everything. Here are some pictures. I think it turned out great from what it was.

I wish I had a before and after shot but I don't.

Made some good progress this weekend. Take a look. I didn't get the monstaliner nor the tail gate finished. I got a little side tracked with the interior.

I had these holes in the door cause I was going to go with the towing style mirrors and then changed my mind. Took a carriage bolt, rubber washer and some flat black paint. It still gives me the option to use them in the future.

I also finished painting the interior.

Started on the rear for the monstaliner. I had a hell of time getting some black primer my brother put on the back years ago. I should have it finished up this week.

and the dash in going to look sick when it's all said and done.

If your talking about the dash, I would say a good weekend and you could have it finished. You need to let the paint sit for a good while before you bang it around during the install.

Looking great! Monstaliner on my bed is on the "list" in years to come.

I really dig that color combo you went with too - great work and thanks for the photos!

Thanks Phil. I'm hoping everything will come together. I should have the dash installed this week so we will see what happens.

I cleaned the engine off the other day and sprayed electrical cleaner and put dielectric grease on some electrical connectors under the hood. Now the engine wants to stutter under acceleration. I also was low on fuel and think I may have picked some trash up from the tank . Any advice? Does it sound like a gas or electrical problem to you? Keep in mind the truck sat for about 3 years but for the last 3 weeks I have had it running it's been great until now.

hmmmm....no solid ideas over here. Did you make sure the electrical contact cleaner fully dried before putting back together?

Anything else you've done recently since it ran great this past 3 weeks?

when was the fuel filter changed last?

I'm thinking it's the fuel filter also. I'm going to swap it out tomorrow after work.

On a nother note I got the dash about 90% together.

Looking SHARP! Did you think about painting the vents and glove box knob black too? Would really pop

What are your plans for the other interior panels? Diamondplate?

Was a gallon of the monster liner enough to do the whole floor?

I would like to do the inside of my quarter panels and doors. Lets see if that ever happens though.

good work keep it up.

I thought about painting them black but wasn't sure how it would turn out so I decided not to do it. I have a nother set of vents I could try it out on.

I change my mind every day about diamond plate or regular flat aluminum sheet for the interior panels. The only plus side to the diamond plate is it will be more rigid which might help with vibrations.

Tin man: I put the liner on pretty generously and still had about 1/4 of the can left. If I could do it again I would spray it on with the cheap harbor freight gun. I may still do that. O ya the liner only has a pot life of about 6-10 hours depending on the temp and humidity.
