Agree. Use liner that's rubbery to dampen vibration, Trim rubber anti-fatigue shop floor mats to fit but easy to remove. Those would add noise and heat insuation from firewal and floor above exhaust ducting.

Now, if the weather would get better and warmer I could start prepping the cab for epoxy primer and raptor. The cab is the only thing keeping me from continuing with my build.

This thing is really great. I wish I had the patience to go work this clean. My build goes on pause for a long time sometimes. I haven't been back here in quite a while. Have you made any progress in the last year?

How all my friends, I"M BACK, this time I hope till the finish of my truck.
I started on July 111th so I've been away from my truck for over 16 months........................wow.............damn .................
I'll take some pics of the cab that I'm working on tonight, just about got the outside and bottom sandblasted, did around the doors and the windshield and inside the engine compartment too. My plan was to Raptor coat the inside floor but I have changed my mind and decided to go with carpet. The whole cab is in amazing shape, not a speck of rust..........................anywhere............ ...........damn, it's 36 years old! Floors are still in gray prime and solid as the day it left the factory. BTW, the plate on the door jam says July 84' . Happy birthday Mr. Truck................

The last 3 pics above show the inside rear of the cab, 3rd pic up shows the bracket for the jack but I don't know what the original jack looks like and on the rear cab wall it has 2 clips I assume for the jack handle. Anyone have any pics of these they would like to share....please
I don't what I'm going to do back there yet, thinking about carpet up to the rear window.............any suggestions out there?

While we are at it, does anyone know what this plate is on the back on the cab and it's function?

It's on the passenger side.

Update,
The cab, new fenders, new hood are just about ready for epoxy primer THEN, Utah is hit with a heat wave like I've never seen before! 3 Weeks of mid 90s to 100 degree weather............geez.............every time I start to make some progress on this truck something also comes along to slow me down. You just can't work spray in this weather. I guess I could spray after midnight, but don't think my neighbors would appreciate that too much. I'll just have to kick back and wait.........................................again

Hi All
Just a quick update. I finished the bed
The original plan was to do the cab first but when it was going to take a week to get the Raptor liner from Amazon I deiced to start the bed. After sand blasting most of it I figured what better place to practice on then the bed.
It came out better then I thought, I love Raptor liner!

Used Raptor Black on the bottom and inside the bed and used tintable on the outside
Comments?

Hi all
Another update, finished the bottom of the cab, primed and Raptor lined

Now waiting on more tintable Raptor for the outside of the cab. This stuff doesn't go as far as I thought it would. I used 8 liters just doing the outside of the bed and the 2 doors, 2 fenders, hood and a few other pieces. I did do 2 coats on everything so I guess it's not to bad.............Won't get it till Thursday so time to look for something else to do

Suggest Heat-Sound Insulation Both Sides of Firewall

Looking good, Mike!
While you have it apart, may I suggest heat-sound insulation on both sides of firewall? Why? Because the ROAR of the 22R-E (in the tone of the Dos Equis Man- LOL) is the most significant noise on our trucks. It's OK up to 65 MPH on mine, but gets uncomfortable 70MPH and beyond. (Would be cool if someone can make a noise-cancelling phone app that can play through the stereo speakers).

BTW, we are planning trip to Utah last week of October. Hoping to stop by again! What do you think of road conditions by then? Not worried about the cold; just don't wanna deal with snow on road because we would not have a convoy.

Hi Ray,
It's getting there...............
I do have the original padding that was in the inside of the truck below the steering column, I plan to out that back in. Do you have a better option? Mine won't be so bad, it's a 20r he he he
O boy visitors...............You can absolutely stop by, just make the visit a little longer this time
I'm hoping by then I will have finished the cab and put it on the frame and starting to re assemble the dash and your favorite" WIRING" I was going to PM you when I was ready to start installing the wiring to get some pointers. All the harness'es are still in my basement and I believe all checked out but I haven't re warped it yet because I want to add some wires in the harness for other things like the back-up flood lights that I have, and I want to add a trailer wiring kit while I'm at it. I'd like to put all the wires in the same harness before I warp it.
I will be picking your brain once I get going, just go easy on me, I'm not a electrical genius by any means,
PM me the details when you know, I really look forward to seeing you again.
Hump

Will work on a Yota for a shower - LOL!
I'll try to swing by on our drive up, but best to stop by again on the way back to So Cal, so we can take our time with the wiring.
May suggest:
1) Finding a starter relay and connector/socket so we can do this.. One for 1986 4Runner to a 3rd-gen 4Runner should work. Not sure if you could get the socket itself for 3rd gen. If not, we can most likely connect to it with 1/4-inch female spade terminals.
2) Send me info on your flood lights. Would be best to use a relay near battery.
3) Find out where's easiest way to tap into the backup light wire and mount a general purpose auto relay (Bosch-style) as close to battery as possible. Most likely near starter. This is to control rear flood lights. I'll try to remember to bring a couple relays for lights. For starter, best to use Toyota relay.
4) Get a On-OFF-On (single-wire-double throw, with center off) switch. We can wire rear flood so:
a) It stays OFF,
b) It will come on when in reverse
c) It will come on when you you want.

Sure helps to know they need relays. Pls find good place to mount relays near fuseblock / battery.
Would you like to wire front or side -facing fogs / floods so you they only come on when taillights are on and you will be reminded they are on? If so, I would switch ground on relay for front or side-facing fog/flood lights. Safer, because only negative side of relay coil runs into the cabin:

Switched-ground for front or side facing floods/fogs

For rear lights, would you like these modes:
1) Off
2) On with backup lights,
3) ON whenever you like, but only when tail lights are on so less likely to forget they're on?
I'll draw up schematic.
Cheers!
