Thanks guys for the explanation. We are getting rain but hey, at least we are above freezing. It is going in the right direction. I feel like I am coming out of hibernation.
Can you guys look at my 86 thread on the Main Tranny Shaft Bearing I have just posted? I don't have a press and am wondering if I could improvise with a similar size pipe or something to act as a press. Any suggestions? I might try finding a shop with one but most tranny shops around here are for automatic transmissions. I am stuck currently trying to get a Snap Ring off, after that I still need to rent a bearing puller, but I think it will make a big difference as I have seen these shafts be loose.
I wonder if I could put a big washer over the bearing to protect it and then find a similar size pipe and gently tap it into place with a rubber hammer?

I like your idea to put a washer over the bearing. Probably help dissipate the impact Evenly.

Swapped out my broken rear seat belt on Saturday. I hit it with a hammer on accident when I was fixing my rear fender wells. The darn spring came flying out at me when the hammer hit it. haha
So I finally found one at U-Pull it last week when I was there. That was the first one I had come across in about a year that was in good shape or actually had the option of the retractable waist belt.
Again, like a rookie, I did not take any pictures.

I hear you there. Its definitely nice having access to quite a few different yards around the area. And two of the u-pull-its are actually the same company but on opposite ends of town. So if you pay at one place, you can use the same slip to get into the other for free, as long as it is with in 24hrs.

Well....... I found a rust hole in the fender well. so I guess I'm going to have to sell it now.
Yeah right!! I'm going to start tearing out the carpet in te morning to assess the situation.
Here's the hole. About the size of a pea now.

I am going to remove the carpet and fix the rust, then bed line the while thing. I saw on a thread here someone made diamond plate seat backs then bed lined those also. I think that's the route in going to take.

I have been putting off doing the rear bed liner for awhile. I guess this is the motivation I needed.

Rust Repair
Well I have been putting off this rust repair for awhile now. I knew that there was going to be other rust when I took the carpet off.
I went to Auto Value this morning to get some supplies in addition to what I already had.

Before the teardown.

Got the rear trim piece removed and pulled the carpet back some. I was really surprised to see how nice the paint still was under there.

Carpet totally out of the back.

A little rust around the seams where the panels come together.

I decided to take the top off to make the whole process easier. All the bolts but one came out great.

All the areas of rust that I am going to address.

Also took the back rest of the rear seats out and also the seatbelts.

And here is some of the worst rust. But still not that bad.

I just might paint the topper while its off as well.

Hsd to take a break to start class. The kids are tearing down engines this week.

That SBC has been torn down so many times by students, I think its as loose as a hookers privates on a Saturday night.

Thanks man. I am going to hit it hard during lunch today. I am hoping to get it all cut out and re welded back up so I can lay some liner down tomorrow or Thursday. That SBC has been torn down so many times by students, I think its as loose as a hookers privates on a Saturday night.

I got lucky in that my area doesn't salt. My truck is mainly rust free. The previous owner also pulled out all the carpet just like you are doing and put in some kind of liner. The problem is that he must have done it a couple of years back because there are sections in the foot wells that have rubbed off and the stock paint is now exposed. I'm wondering if I can simply add more liner to the spots that are exposed or if I should remove all of the liner and put a brand new coat of it on the entire bed.
On a seperate note. While doing some searching for winches I came across a post you made on a thread about smittybilt saying that you were going to go with their 10k winch. How did that end up working out for you? I'm torn between WARN's m8000 and smitty's 10k winch.
