Thanks rustED.. I see you got your screen name changed. Really not much more to do to get the rest of the body straight.

Hello Cyberhorn.. I did a little test spot under the bed with some undercoat to see how I will hold up. I will check it out tonight. I dont have any pictures of it, but I used a tractor to hold the bed up and gave it a good cleaning under there. It is clean enough to eat off of. Looks good.

I was looking over the rest of the truck and I will be changing out the drivers front fender and it has a little ding in it that I got off of Highluxs which is a great fender. I only see 6 other little dings on the whole truck. Just door dings. Cab roof looks perfect and 3 in one door, 2 dings in the other door and one in the extra cab part. When I get on it, it should not take long at all to get it ready for paint. Might be one or two that I missed but wont be much. Waiting to take some time off from work to get it done but we are a guy short so who knows when that will be. Hoping soon for some time off.

This shelf sit at the back of my truck. I was on a ladder and at the top of the shelf and I did not have it very stable and I fell off of the ladder and so jumped to the frame of my truck and didnt make it like I wanted to and fell to the floor. I dont bruise easily and havent had a bruise in about 10-15 years. Now I am hobbled up for a few days but it could of been worse. Buggered my leg up real good but for the height of the fall, guess it was a lesson on being a dumb butt.

Hello Cyberhorn... Usually I am safe when working but I thought I could make it a quick job of getting up there and back down with no problems and it caught me. Still a little stiff in the leg and will be a couple of more days before it is better but it is still letting me know it is there. I hadn't pulled a stunt like that in a while.

I was looking over the rest of the truck and if I counted right, I have a total of 6 door dings. Less then hail damage or very minor damage at all. I fixed two small dings in the new fender that I will be putting on at a later time. I got this fender from Highlux and it is in excellent condition. I just got it roughed in and will finish it up completely when it is on the truck as it is easier to work with on the truck and is to flexible as it is now. The bed I still have a couple of hours worth of work on as well but that wont get done until I go to paint it.

I do not like headers so I took a "Y" pipe I had and with a wire brush, drill and sandpaper I was able to get it to new metal again. Checked it out for cracks and everything looks great. Just need to get it on the manifold and it will be loud when I take it to the muffler shop at a later time as well.

It wont take long to get the rest of the body in shape and I could be painting it soon but I want to get all of the mechanical issues worked out before I paint it as it will be coming off of the frame for paint.

Two parts closer to being done and show how minor the damage is on the whole truck.

That fender and down pipe look great. Few dings you won't see after your done.

It looks like we had a lot of bad weather while I was in Pa. Just got back this morning after a 14hr 50 minute drive straight through the night.
And news said we are getting severe thunderstorms tonight through tomorrow morning. Crazy.

We need to hookup on that vehicle. I will try and get in touch with you this week.

Hello JusToyotAdkins... The Adhesion Promoter is just an off of the shelf can. The interior paint I have mixed up at Oriellys. You will need to ask your local store where their paint store is. That is the support store that can mix paint and supplies all of the rest in a certain amount of radius from the paint store.

I have an Oriellys 2 miles from me but I have to go 35 miles to the one Oriellys that mixes the paint. You can take a sample such as a kick panel that isnt faded and they can mix it up to the same color. I believe Autozone works in the same way. I dont have Schucks, Checkers and some other stores so dont know if they do the same thing. You want to make sure that they know it is for interior use. Cleanliness is the key to getting it to look good and lasting. I use a solution of water and Simple Green and rinse well.

There are a few colors that you dont have to have custom mixed, but blue and red is one that you will have to. There is a gray that is close but still stands out if you dont do all of the pieces that is off of the shelf.

I secured a double decker console but it needs paint. Fortunately they just opened an O'Reilly's about five miles from my house. They are new to the area. I'll go see if they mix spray paints. I'd forgot that they were a possible source.

Your Welcome JustToyotAdkins... Getting the interior of a pick up looking nice is fairly easy to do and it does make a difference in the driving pleasure of it as well. When done right it can feel like you are driving a new truck again. Just a few years afterwards.

Hello Nervo19... The double deckers are so much more comfortable for driving. I am thinking of putting a 4Runner rear heater in my truck for the heat and the arm height. Still working on that one and it will be awhile. If I don't do the rear heater, I will be looking for a double decker.

The 85s don't have a Clutch Safety Switch and no place to mount it on the 85 clutch pedal. Since I have an 87 wiring harness I swapped pedals with a spare assembly that I have. I could of jury rigged it with a jumper wire and that is what I did to get it to start on starting fluid.

I did get a few gallons of gas for it as the tank is still dry. I swapped a lot of parts from my 85 trouble shoot the wipers, blower motor, and TPS on the 86 pickup and had to go put it back together. Got some done but still need to do some more of getting it back together. Tank is still dry but hoping to take some time off from work later this week and hope to get it running with gas in the tank.

I did get the pedals swapped. Here is the difference between 85 and the newer trucks where my fingers are pointing for the Clutch Safety Switch.

Toyota also switched this plug to the brake light switch so got to swap that out as well.

My truck originally had a blue interior and I had the dash blue. I have since got some gray SR5 door panels and will have a gray interior now. This Speedometer Bezel will work for now, it is the squared off type. I like the bezel that has a pointed edge to it. Most would notice the difference but I do and is the one I prefer.

I don't care for the black trimming on the inside so changed it to gray as well. Factory it can be black or same color.

Here are the parts that I have changed to gray. Still have a few to do and the Main Support and will be getting to that soon. I will find a nice set of gray seats and for $100 I can have new carpet. Some one did a bang up job of doing a crappy headliner replacement with who knows what, but I can get a head liner out of the bone yard for about $20. The $30 I have in my door panels, interior paint and a few other things, I figure I will have a nice stock looking interior for $200 or less. It will be awhile before I do the carpet as I have to have a patch panel put in the floor to repair a hole in it.

I see you provided me with the SEM color I need to use. Still haven't been to O'Reilly's. I have used a Duplicolor gray on some plastics and it matched well but I wasn't thrilled at how matt the finish is compared to real plastic. In reading over Grego92's thread I think SEM gray is what he uses too. I think he's selling consoles and other unobtainium parts on eBay refinished. The sellers name is Greg and lives in Petaluma, CA? They look great but I wanted to tackle a refinish myself. I have a good double decker base and I'm waiting for a new gray lid cover from topgaiters off eBay. They made the shifter boots we have.
With all the attention to detail you do I think you ought to do a project for resale on eBay. I always watch the classic pickups and first gen 4Runners and the prices are astonishing. Most come from California so the Midwest is probably starved for a nice one. The buyer would have a nice thread of exactly what was done.

Hello Cyberhorn...I am sure I have one and will look and see as my days off are coming up and get it to you in the mail. I seen I missed your call and will give you a call or you can call anytime as I will be up and about. Been a hectic week this week and hoping things settle down here soon.

Hello Nervo19..I like SEM better the Duplicolor as well. I use SEM 17303 for the light gray and the 17013 for the dark grays. Toyota has two shades of gray for their interiors. It is close enough for me when doing gray interiors and most need colored again as the gray panels will start looking green with age as they came from the factory.

Grego does some great work. I have a center console from him and it is in outstanding shape. I will look him up on ebay sometime to see what he has. I am sure I will be impressed. One regret I have in life is that I went to electronics after high school. I have tons of classes and hours in that stuff and have since forgot about it as the bottom fell out. I was trying to follow the money after school and had a bigger interest in the auto field. Should of went with the auto field.

I am hoping to at least be able to do it part time and maybe full time in the next few years if all works out. I need to get my skills, shop and speed up. I get all kinds of request for different things and time and shop have let a lot of that opportunity be missed. The heat last year and cold this past winter, I lost a lot of time out there. That is getting better now but still aways to go.

A friend of mine and me are brain storming on some things as well as we have worked on some things in the past and really like how they turn out. He is great in sewing and is going to teach me on that soon as we get the time. He knows Jeeps, Dodge and boats well. I know Toyotas, old American iron and know the classic trucks as well. Done a few I the past. Never done a flat head motor and want to someday. Misty cant believe I want a 2 door wagon or truck panel wagon.

My 85 will be my last major build on Toyotas for a while until I do my Downey truck which is a couple of years off. Still gathering parts and it will be a complete restore to new and will be what Slacker and kawazack has done. It will be a 3-5 year build when I do it. I will always have a project in the shop. The 50 and 60 Fords, Chevys and Dodge Trucks are easily available in my area. I have helped do a couple of them and those do go fast. Have looked into those as trucks are easier and quicker to do.

Hello Gizzler00.. In the past when I seen interiors painted, they used regular paint and I did not like the results. Interior paint works great. Stacey David even did Ted Nugents Bronco with it. A fresh looking interior makes a big difference in the driving of the truck. I still feel like I am driving in 86 or 88 depending on which runner I am in. I have been trying to learn how to repair dash cracks when I can in the winter as that would make it even that much newer. Vinyl repair still is getting the better half of me.

Sometime ago Nervo19 told me about http://www.garagejournal.com/ and I have been slowly getting my garage to where I can use it. I recently got power installed and my long term goal is to have the shop to where it is great looking but still always be useful. When I first got concrete down for it, I had a big oil spill on the new floor. My brother thought that was a shame to get new concrete dirty. I told him this shop will always be a working shop and not a show room. I have since had all kinds of spills on the floor.

Even though it is a working shop and will have tons more of spills of oil, paint, and what ever happens, I want it to be something that is still a pleasure to use and work in. With the current project of the 86 at a mechanics as I cant get the TPS issue figured out, I put the 85 on hold for a few days to work on the shop and taking bent and rusted pieces of body parts, ( Some was on my 86 runner for a while until I got better parts) and am slowly going to piece a front end together to hang above my work bench. I will swap out with better pieces as I come across them or get them straightened out at a later time.

I also have one paper can of oil from the old days and found some more at an old shop that I plan to add to my collection at a later time. Just need to get to where it is at and pick it up. I am working on getting a welder here in the next few months so will have some old and new stuff in the shop.

Here is the start of the front end I will have hanging over my work bench. It will be pieced together with zip ties, sheet metal screws and such to make it look good but will be made up mostly from broken or repaired pieces I have accumulated. Most of the pieces would have been thrown in the trash so I am not out really anything except for the hardware to put it together. I will eventually cut some holes in the back of the headlights or find away to power them up for lighting purposes and to give it a life like look.

Some more pics of my awesomeless wood working skills. I have a bent up 1st gen and 3rd gen truck hood that I will probably use as a hood if it will fit and since it will be up high, most will probably not even notice.

I have a cherry picker but it gets in the way and takes up to much space. Was digging around the web and got a similar idea from http://www.machinistweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=776 I would like to have a beam that spans from one side to the other but feel my width would be to much. Never considered something like this that could be broke down and set a side with out taking up to much space. Still looking for other ideas as well for an over head engine/body puller.
