After driving around with different combos of stacked box/single box I decided the best option would be to add a little height to the single .50 cal ammo can.
(Also borrowed my dads Tuffy cup holders for a test fit)
I guess it is no coincidence that the height I found to be most comfortable is very near to the factory sr5 console.
I needed about 8" on top of the can to get a comfortable level for an arm rest.
I removed the top handle and front latch mechanism. The lid stays put without it.
Built a 2x4 box to sit on top and store a small amount of cargo.
Bolted to the lid
The top will be getting some hinges and a pad

My mom volunteered to add a 2" pad and some material to the lid and something to cover the rest of the wood. I have graciously accepted and am looking forward to seeing what she comes up with.
I will also add some hinges to the box lid and a few bolts through the floor to hold it in place.
NICE truck man! I really liked the expedition style thing you had going on. I have to agree with you on the OME springs. They ride GREAT!! And they only get better the more broken in they get! That ammo can console is a great idea, ill have to look into doing that myself...

Thanks dude, like your 4Runner too!
I love expedition style builds but it's a little tricky with these trucks because you have to watch the overall weight.
Mine didn't do well with the tent on top so I'm building out a camper shell.
I always contemplate doing the Ammo Can Mod to mine and removing the Rear heat console. There really is not much storage with my current setup and I would love more.
Looks great man. How are the springs settling in? Mine are still getting there. I need to go flex it out.

In the process of deleting the rear heat in my dad's 4Runner for that reason.
My front springs are good but the rear was too stiff without a load.
I took out 2 springs and it softened up a lot.
Also my rear OME shocks were completely extended at ride height with no load so I removed them.
Rides better now. Front is a little flat. Thinking about adding my rear leaf to the front if it will fit.
Probably eventually get longer shocks all the way around.
Shackle closest to the camera in the pic above is the full medium leaf pack. <br/>Shackle in the background has 1 overload leaf and the 3rd leaf from the top removed. Little better angle.
I took the whole pack out on the driver side to disassemble and remove 2 leafs.
After doing that I realized the springs could be removed while still installed in the truck.
Saved myself some time and work on the passenger side.
Lowered 1.5" and much softer.
I think it will sit fine and maybe be a little softer with my camper shell and some tools in the back.
But I usually drive around unloaded.
Testing out the new set up on a log.
Rear shocks are not installed in these pics. They are too darn short and constantly top out after bumps. And completely restrict droop.
I've seen it coming for a while and it finally happened.
On the road about 2 weeks ago and my motor started making a loud clunking noise.
I pulled into a parking lot and towed it home the next day.
I don't have any experience rebuilding motors but I also don't have any money so I guess I'll learn!
