Broke down and rebuilt the carb today. Ordered the brand (standard)kit which was told the best most complete kit. It worked out good except the fact it didnt come with a bowl vent solenoid diaphragm ! Came with a gasket and rivets but no diaphragm. I air checked it and it works so o well it will do. Just need a fuel pump and fuel amd she should fire up.

The hi steer I'm my opinion is a must with a lift , especially if you plan on crawling it's nice to not bash your tie rod and have a better turning radius. Lots of people run stock low steer but once they switch to hi steer , stock steering is a joke. What leafs did you get ?

So I got my radiator back in and full of fresh coolant , new power steering fluid, front shock towers cut off frame , the rest of the frame wire wheeled & rattle canned , ebrake line mounted on gas skid , and fabbed up a quick coolant resivor mount. Ordered my fuel pump / pump spacer / fuel filter / motor oil & filter / PVC / air filter , should have it all tomorrow morning. Also placed a order for a few lil things from trail gear which should be here by wednesday. Getting pretty stocked to get this thing to move under its own power again. Although I still have lots of work before I actually wheel it. Heres a few pics nothing special.
Frame painted

The ebrake cable mounts on stock rear spring hanger , since I put the 63s in and cut out the old hangers I had to weld a bolt to the gas skid plate and use a nut to mount the hanger so the cable wouldn't be flopping around.

Since I cut the front rusted out inner fender , I had to make a bracket that holds the coolant resivor , with only the top bracket it moved around a lot , so I came up with this real quick . A cut down chevy cable shifter bracket and a skateboard bushing.

Got these today.

So good and bad news. Good news first , she runs and motor sounds mechanically good , no tics / knocks / rattles ect . But it ran pretty poor. Idles half decent , but don't rev up too well. Got a huge vacuum leak under the intake manifold. I guess the 28 year old intake mani gasket threw in the towel. So looks like I'm gonna be getting a intake mani gasket kit. While I'm at it im gonna do the valve cover gasket and polish or paint the cover. Was kinda cool creeping across the back parking lot to actually drive it in the shop instead of pushing it. Although I had to use the ebrake as my brake cause all my lines are off. Hopefully my box from trail gear gets here tomorrow !!!

My trail gear loot came. Extended brake lines , extra line mount and clip , and 4 frame bushings for front shackles.

Also ordered a intake manifold gasket set , valve cover gasket set , NGk vpower spark plugs , and thermostat. Hopefully have time this weekend to install all these things.

Didn't get a chance to do anything this last weekend. But thankfully i have a cool boss who allows me to store my projects at the shop so i can wrench on them on my lunch breaks. I got the intake mani off yesterday , and cleaned up the surfaces to get ready to install hopefully tomorrow. The last owner obviously thought a hundred pounds of silicon would be better than a gasket lol. Also got my extended steel brake lines on and blead, no pics yet.

If all goes well it will be running again tomorrow , and hopefully better now without the huge vac leaks. Still gotta put new seals on valve cover and paint or polish it, and put in new thermostat and plugs.

Good looking build. I would replace the strock front spring hanger while you at at it as well.

Keep up the good progress on the build!

Thanks. Yes I do plan on building new front spring hanger. I plan on taking a leaf or 2 out of my front packs , then see where my ride height is also depending on height I may not build a drop hanger just build a new hanger in place of factory and push it forward a inch or 2 to prevent tires from stuffing firewall . I have plans on running 37s in the future once Tcases and axles are built. Then I'll have to drill frame and weld in new frame tubes to set my shackle angle. All in time. My goals are to just get it driveable for light wheeling this summer and continue building on as time and money permits. My second daughter will be here anyway now so time is tight. I should have named this the lunch break build.

Painted cover , new gaskets and grommets , pcv

Air clean assembly put back on with fresh filter

Few shots of the extended brake lines

Runs pretty good now . Just need to get a timing light on it and set timing.

My frame just had surface rust. I used a wire wheel on a air drill to get most off . The 1$ Walmart flat black paint. Rustoleum Is by far better than the cheap paint I used. After the wire wheel job I didn't feel the need to spend 4$ a can on it.

I can when I'm back at the shop tomorrow. You know how a bench grinder had 2 wheels , one stone wheel for grinding , and on the other side it has a wire wheel for cleaning / polishing ect. It's like that wire wheel but you can put it in a drill. I used it on a air drill but you can use it on any handheld drill. I got it from lowes for like 5$. Get a course one if your gonna use it on the frame. I got a course and a fine. The fine I use for polishing/ cleaning up stuff , and the course for heavy stuff like frames / differentials ect.
