Stock steering is a push pull system and steering goes under the leaf springs. Trail gears kit or any other hi steer kit requires the use of a ifs style box that swings left to right and goes over the top of leaf springs.

Some little updates. Havnt had much time other than lunch breaks here and there to work on it.
Picked up a few parts for 20$. I needed a rad shroud and floor mats , and the tweaked stock bumper will work for awhile till I get a winch plate to build off of.
I had a brain fart while fabbing up my it's box , I didn't had the pitman arm all the way up on the splines when I mocked up the box, so after drilling and welding the plates in place and tightening up the pitman arm nut it went up another 1/4 in or more and the nut for the draglink touched the frame ! I was pissed! Since the frame was drilled and inserts and plates all tacked in I decided to just notch the frame and fill it in with some tube. Heres the results.
I also got my old race seat back from a buddy ! Had it in my old hatch
Now in the yota

Truck is coming along great! Diggin your frame mod haha, hey, whatever works!
Dumb question, but what is the difference between an IFS steering box and one with hydro assist? Is it worth the extra money?
Thanks.

Ifs box is so I could use hi steer , hydro assist is just a hydraulic ram that attaches to your tie rod to assist your steering , makes it super easy to turn big tires.

I understand how to install and what is needed for the IFS box and the high steer. But is a pump needed for the hydro assist boxes?

Read through my build. Buy a high steer kit , buy a ifs box mount kit , buy a ifs box , cut / drill / weld and boom you got hi steer. As for hydro assist , tap your power steering box , buy a hydro kit with ram and lines , and install.

Got the hammers/mallets/and cut off wheels out today to do some body work on the new to me stock bumper. Turned out pretty straight I think. Also did a lil work on the hood to get it to line up with the grill. If you remember my tijuana fork lift body work on the radiator support on page 1 of the build, it ended up working well. The grill/headlights and side markers lined up pretty good. Sanded the bumper down for paint , got the turn signals out and gonna clean them up this weekend . Gonna paint the bumper and put the new carriage bolts in next week.
Here's a few pics of the mock up .

No big updates , just been cutting the front shock towers out and cleaning up front part of frame so it can be rattle canned. I did finally drop my gas tank and radiator off at a buddies shop to get tanked and cleaned. So hopefully next week get them back in. Still need a fuel pump and carb rebuild kit before it runs. Also picked up a set of wore out 35x13.5 toyo mts for 13$ to use as rollers. And yes I did mount them on the stock 6" rim lol. The truck won't really see much if any street or off road time on these wheels and tire. Mainly just for mock up.

Got my gas tank back from being cleaned. My radiator was flushed and new inlet and outlets were put in with a new rad cap.
Got the tank installed , waiting to put the radiator back in till I'm ready to get it running. Hopefully in a week or two When I have more time and money it will move under its own power again and will start the bob.
