1985 Toyota Hilux SR5 4x4 NorCal Fun Horse
Hey Guys,
Long time lurker, posted questions and got great answers. Much respect for the forum users and admins!
It is finally time (with funds) to bring the Yota to it's previous glory, with upgrades of course. Goals are to have a solid truck for camping, snow, desert, trips in and around California. Currently it has a saggy suspension and 250K on a questionable motor. I have decided to do a full OME Dakar suspension and rebuild the motor with ENGNBLDR components. I live in the Bay Area, Peninsula, and wanted to keep the work done local. ARB has one official distributor of OME products and it is Les Schwab Tires in San Carlos. I'm having them do the whole install and alignment of the suspension as I do not have a garage at this time. Here is a break down of the cost.

I know some of you will cringe at having to pay someone to do a simple weekend job, I know I do. But there is nothing I can do about it. I'll post before and after pics when I take them. Hopefully I'll have her up and running before end of January...

Here are the Post OME Dakar lift pictures. It sits much higher than before due to the saggy leaf springs. One issue is that the left rear sits higher than right. I'm hoping some flexing will sort this out.
Next step, rebuild motor with ENGNBLDR parts.

Build Update
Hey,
It's been a while since I put work in the truck. Damn vintage motorcycles!
I finally broke down and decided to rebuild the motor. I went with Engnbldr Master Engine Kit, StreetRV head, 268C cam. The work will be done by Clark's Auto & Machine Shop in Cupertino, CA. I also purchased a Marlin 1200lb clutch, new 24.3lb fly wheel, Nippon Aluminum 2 row radiator and various misc parts.
The motor was never rebuilt, original 246K miles. Steve @ Clark's said I needed 0.20 over Pistons and the Rods only 0.10 over. That was a good sign because I didnt know how the innards would be.
Ted @ Engnblr gave me great advice and had all my parts in stock to ship. That cat is cool.
I hope to have the truck back in 2 weeks as the DMV wants me to Smog it... hope it passes!!
How imperative is it to clean out the intake manifold? Should I request the intake manifold be hot tanked & cleaned, at the least de-greased? How about the rocker arms? Just resurfaced?
Thanks, I'll try to take some pictures...

Hey MTB,
The ride is MUCH better than before. The front was sagging so much it was hitting the bump stops constantly. I'm still getting used to getting in the truck, it is higher than before. I can imagine the driver seat material beginning to wear out. I think I need to flex it some for it to settle.

Half decade update
Wow, 5 Years was my last post but I’ve used this site for so much!
The motor is still going strong. I’ve done the Supra AFM with custom 3in aluminum pipe, upgraded the exhaust to 2.25in and added high flow cat, cleaned out the intake manifold (so much fuel and oil residue from the EGR & PCV!), upgraded the injectors, added a inline filter for the PCV. Routine oil changes, cap n rotor, Accel wires, NGK plugs. Upgraded to Marlin 30 spline axles, FROR Tacoma brake upgrade, SS brake lines, and large DOM drag link.
Next big things were the trans blowing up due to a heavy landscape rock load. Had to get that rebuilt... Then the A/C went out... those totalled half the motor!
Now, as the natural progression goes, I want bigger tires. I’ll probably go to 32-33in and have gotten a 1995 stock V6 rear diff with 4.88 gears(cleaned, painted, Marlin pinion EcoSeal, checked specs) for the front and purchased a new V6 3rd with Grizzly locker 4.88 from Marlin for the rear. The rear axles are leaking so Marlin rebuild kit when the 3rd goes in. I highly recommend new axle breathers or the relocation kit as those things clog easily.
Oh, and I put in 1996 Prelude seats and welded new seatbelt mounts.

Thanks!
I'm hoping to get the rear end 're-freshed' and the new diff installed by end of month. Just got the HF 20T shop press!
I wonder how the power and gas mileage is going to be affected by 4.88 gears and 31in tires.
Also, I have two front 'SR5' cloth seats available for sale, includes seat belts. They are in decent shape but would recommend new foam and a good cleaning. The cloth seats have no tears, some slight wear/tears on the sides near the rail covers. Missing some screws for the covers and a knob for lumbar support. These would be PERFECT for date matched rebuild. I can send pictures if you PM me.
Local pickup only (SF / Davis / Sacramento CA)
