Patfink's 1982 Longbed "Build"

New to the forum, just picked this one up. Photos from when I first got it, I plan on:
-returning to stock height
-carpet
-getting rid of that yellow tint
-probably reuplostering seats and doors

I'll address the elephant in the room... it's an intake. Not sure why, but the previous owner sort of hot-rodded it. Those ports feed to an (as far as I can tell empty) airbox then to the carb. It feels a little weak and definitely burns a little rich, but I've never driven another one. More to come...

Also... '82? Round headlights? I know. The grill seems to be really-well zip-tied in place. I like this look better so I'll probably just try and make it permanent.

Post a pick of the engine bay, I'm interested in seeing how that thing ties into the intake

Will do. It's not the prettiest, but it works.

Interesting truck, I too wonder about the intake. Do you plan on keeping it automatic? I also like the round headlights better.

I'd much rather have a 5spd, but the auto works so damn well...

Clips to fix grill right are super cheap. I just ordered a bunch. Ill let you know what I have left over. I have a 2wd grill for yours as well. That is a 4wd 79-81 grill in it now.

The yellow stuffs got to go. Go blue and white in the interior. Be sweet.

If you go with an 82-83 grill you will need the 82-83 headlight surrounds too...getting hard to find..

Engine time.

So I grabbed a couple under hood photos. I have a service manual coming in the mail, but already this thing is giving me all sorts of questions. This is only the second time I've opened the hood since buying it a week or so ago. (First was to jump someone's battery)

So I can't seem to find a traditional air filter... Air comes in here:

Into this box (left):

Through a mesh filter that I can't seem to remove:

And into a box that I imagine should house an air filter on top of the carb.

Truck is off, does that left valve seem normal? That seems to be the limit as far as closing. Again my apologies, my experience extends to the one time I rebuilt a single-cylinder motorcycle carb.

Other side:

Also, anyone know what seat(s) would have originally come in this? My bench seat is through-bolted with some obviously not stock hardware. I have some brackets behind the shifter that look like they'd hold a center console or something. I'd love a cup holder or two...

Is the mesh the only filter on there? And also I don't think it makes the engine run rich, it would if it was more restrictive than the original.

As far as I can tell. I'm looking for a small filter that fits in that box on the carb. I imagine it would lean it out if anything... Deinitely smells rich when it runs. Not crazy, but noticable.
