Well, I pulled the trigger today. Let's see what happens...

I kind of feel like I'm selling one of my children right now.

Why?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I understand life changes things.
I saw your posting while browsing e-bay (because I just like to see what pops up) and I instantly recognized your truck from this restoration thread.
You know that you do not need to waste your time with the hassle of e-bay and just give your truck to me!

You should do ok on the sell. I sold my yellow 1980 for 16.5k about three years ago. It was restored, but not as nice as yours. Your truck would be a bargain considering the one that recently sold at Barrett Jackson for 24K, plus the added buyers premium they charge. Good luck.

You won first place.....why sell it? I guess I understand the enjoyment of the build.
Yours was the only truck in that photo you posted that had ANY class. Did I see a YJ with a chrome tube bumper and a big dumb Dodge with purple headlights?
I wouldn't go anywhere near those trucks or the people that owned them.

In the end I realized that this truck has been more about the journey than the results. I loved the truck and it certainly fulfilled a childhood dream of owning one, but I decided to let it go after after not having the time to drive it as much as I would like. My family grew to 4 last year and with only two seats I realized that eventually I would have to decide which one of my sons I would have to leave behind when I drove it - I don't want to have to leave either one behind. I also missed having something to work on. I missed having to figure things out and researching options. I missed the late nights, fabrication, struggles and frustration that come with a project in progress
More importantly, I want the truck to be driven and enjoyed by somebody who appreciates it for what it is as well as the time I put into it. Today is a bitter sweet day as I say goodbye to my ole friend and send it on its way to its new home in Texas.

Loaded up and moving on to its new home:

Part of me hates to see it go, but I know I'm ready to move on. The experience has been great and it has been my favorite vehicle to work on thus far. Who knows, I may build another later on down the road or perhaps this truck might just come back to me - part of the deal that I made with the buyer is that I have the right of first refusal if he ever goes to sell it. The best part about building this truck has been the friendships I have made and the people I have helped and/or inspired along the way. I can't even begin to count the number of PMs, emails and messages that I have received telling me that I inspired them to build their own. I also can't count the number of PMs, emails and messages that I have sent asking people for information and/or searching for parts. I may have done the actual work on my own, but I certainly wasn't on my own at all. I have to send a special thanks out to Corey (Slacker), Don (Suncomb1), Al (NJtrekker) and all of the other staff members here on YotaTech for making this happen the way it did. This is by far the BEST Toyota community on the web and I'm proud to not only be a part of the community, but also a staff member to help keep it running. Guys, use this site for what it is intended for - the information is out there, you just have to read or ask! I may be moving on from this truck, but I will still be active on this forum (I have a 2016 Tacoma that is going to need some mods soon...) and this thread will remain open for anybody with questions or comments.
Again, I appreciate all of the support I have received here and I thank everybody who helped me along the way; no matter how much or how little!

I totally understand having space for everyone. My dad had to trade our 1986 reg cab for 1991 Xtra cab so both my brother and I could fit in the back when we were little (of course those trucks were only a few years old at the time!). I am going to have to read your entire build thread at some point as your truck turned out really well!!
Are there any plans for another project or are you focusing on the family for now?

Hello everyone...my first post on YotaTech.
I am the lucky soul that KawaZX636 entrusted to take care of this awesome truck. This is not my first Toy...back in 1984 (college days) I bought a 1983 just like this one. Drove it a couple years and traded it in on a brand new 1986 xtra cab 4x4. Then over the years I owned a 1984 xtra cab 4x4, 1985 & 1987 4-Runner, and last was a 2002 double cab I owned for 10 years. All of them being red and lifted.
KawaZX636 did such an awesome job on this truck. His attention to detail and shear persistence throughout this project sets the bar very high for anyone taking on such a build.
It will be well taken care of and shown off proudly. I will of course give credit to the guy that literally put passion, sweat, and blood in this beauty.
If you are in Texas, specifically South Houston....let's meet and share some Toyota time.

Welcome aboard Garry. Glad Dave's 83 stays in the family of 1st gen Toy owners. His loss, your gain. Enjoy.
I've been rebuilding my 81 and Dave's work has been an inspiring to say the least. I could have easily gone the short trek to get back on the road, but watching his work ethic and ideas, has led me to follow my ideas with his influence. Still far off from getting on the road, still plugging along slowly. Maybe we could meet up one day, as my grandson lives on Houston. Could visit and swap stories then.

Dave's pride and joy arrived Thursday night at midnight in Texas. Spent Friday getting the Texas registration and today (Sat.) my son and I participated in a Hooters car gathering. Lots of nice cars and the Toy fit right in. I just wish Dave was here to field all the questions and receive the compliments. I did my best and gave him props for the work. First mod will be air conditioning as the 104 heat index confirmed I need it. Garry
