That is my goal. This is something I have playing around with idea wise for around three years.

Those are just great looking trucks.

Im not big on bobs, but if comes out looking like the photo, I think it could look great.
They come up every now and than. I have heard of them selling for as low as $700. I hear you on the projects. Whenever I have $$$ no good deals. Good deal comes up no $$$

Yep. Still the plan..I have the bed rail mounts figured out but the curve of the backside of the cab roof is going to be a challenge.

Ok on to todays progress:
Got a late start but measuring a few times, forgetting about a body mount and having to rethink the cut ended up better in the long run.
Still got 8" out of the bed and about 2-2.25" out of the frame. Not as much as a lot of guys get out of their bob.. My spirings are 9" longer than stock.

I am planning on adding another cross member across the back and wire wheel/ painting the frame while I have access.

Sanded down about 3"+ on both the inside and outside of the bed where the tail end section will be put back on

A little Winnebago trekker trivia is that they sandwiched a Metal plate in both side of the bed. Even though they appear to have been enclosed by fiberglass, the metal was just chunks of rust when I cut through:

Weird though that the floor of the bed has expanded metal in it but it is not rusted

Hoping to start the fiberglass work early next week. It sure is nice having more room in the garage

You wasted no time! Interesting on the metal incased in the fiberglass. I can only conclude that it must not have been air/water tight at some point allowing moisture to build up.. Thats my guess anyhow.

Keep the pics rolling in! Looking good thus far.

I would have liked to have gotten a little more but 8" is what I figured I could get out of the top in case I have to retain the stock Trekker windows. I am hoping to find a pick and pull deal on shorter canopy windows. Plus I can still get my fullsize 35" spare behind the rear seat...not much else

TrekkerPaul might have a connection to sell my original windows which will help pay for this thing.

I agree on the rust issue. It will be Monday before I can touch this thing again...I work a wierd schedule

Next step is to use some short strips of 1x2" to help position the top so I can get the glass going again similar to what Luke of Frontier 4x4 did here:

Sand and some body filler, sand again

Done, fits like factory

Had a little time today to play...
1x2 strips to help hold pieces in place prior to glass:

Since I won't be able to glass the bottom of the bed I welded a piece of 1.25 angle to help support the end of the bed:
Name: e63fa38e.jpg
Views: 136
Size: 77.9 KB
Trial fit of the end of the bed found something off:
Name: d5ccad72.jpg
Views: 130
Size: 64.0 KB
Winnebago had out a metal brace in the corner of bed, again rusted out and forces pieces of the fiberglass to separate:
Name: 3f46b93c.jpg
Views: 125
Size: 83.4 KB
Cleaned it up with a cut off wheel:
Name: 36fe1c30.jpg
Views: 130
Size: 44.6 KB
Trial fit of the end piece:
Name: c1c0996b.jpg
Views: 130
Size: 82.7 KB
Both sides came out at 64 7/8", was shooting for 65" buy am happy it came out even
Need to even up the cut a little bit before fiberglass but it should come out pretty good.
Due to the location of the shackles I will end up moving the tail lights up and relocating the back up lights:

Looks like I a gonna sell the Marlin rear bumper because reworking the mounting brackets would be a major PITA and make something out of some 2x3 box tubing.

send me a pm with your zip code and I will see what it might run to ship, might be a bit spendy

It was a little chillier today than I was expecting so the fiberglass was taking forever to cure..hopefully it holds up.
I got the inside of the bed done and the outer wall of the bed. Gonna let it sit for a few days to allow it to cure.

Need to do some trimming, will take care of that when I start sanding.
Filled in the back up light hole in preparation of moving the tail lights up:

Need to glass the inside of the outer bed side if that makes since and all fiberglass the inside where the light holes were filled in.
Gonna take a bit of sanding and some touchup work to get it looking good.

Looking at the rear of thing it is definitely higher than I want so I think I am gonna drill my shackles up about two inches or so to drop the POS down a little...

Before you drill out your shackles, are you going to make another bumper for it? The extra weight of your crossbar/bumper would bring it down. Just something to think about.

that is something that I have already considered but thanks for the reminder. I will throw a full load in the back to simulate trail load/bumper weight. the truck has always sat kind of higher than I wanted:

Ideally i would like to drop it down about 1.5"

Told my wife I was gonna sell my bumper...wierd thing came out of her mouth.."Just keep it, you are gonna need it for your next truck"
Hard to believe those words came out of her mouth...so it is gonna be wrapped in shrink wrapped and stuck in the barn...

Hope you find a Trekker some day. I saw one when I was younger and decided I wanted one too...nice to have dreams become reality every now and than

MAN!! This thing is awesome. You are doing a great great great job man, keep it up!

I really like it topless. You should get a rag top for it. I keep my top off mine down here in rainy south Florida almost year round. Probably not great for it but like you said, I'm not really thinking about resale, I'm just enjoying it while it's mine.

Also with the top off the (3)kids never want to go anywhere in the minivan which is another reason to take the yoda.

As for the chop... beauty is in the eyes of the beholder man so rock on.

Sorry for the hijack but I've been reading your thread for months now and only just finished. Keep on keepin on man.

Keeping the wife and kids involved helps fit in the budget. Having a wife that supports you like yours does is a big plus. You are a lucky guy.

Thanks! I would love to make a Can Back style top for it.
Maybe someday I will take it to a boat top shop and get a guestimate..

Thanks! My wife is great.

Played with some 100 grit today, still a lot of sanding to go and my phon camera is going downhill fast but you get the picture:
