-John that sounds good.

Think I got my alt charging now. See my notes below:

Found these notes on a pirate thread:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Wiring/Part2/

Found a big note in an installation bulletin I mentioned that says L activates the alternator and It will not charge without voltage present at L.

So I removed the red ignition wire from the F terminal and moved it to the L terminal. S is still hooked to battery along with battery charge wire from alt. I think it worked. Battery was 12.5V with engine off. Turned it on and went to 13.10V and so far it has slowly climbed to 13.57V I watched the tenths place on the multimeter climb by +1 maybe every 30 seconds to a minute. Also this paper that came in the box with the alt it said to give the alt about 15 mins to fully adjust the voltage regualtor.

However when I turned the headlights on the voltage starting dropping but the battery also doesn't have a lot of charge since I kept running the engine with the alt not working before testing everything.

Have you pulled the ground from the battery and did voltage testing with the ALT/Solo? A dead celled Battery(Or dying) could put a huge pull on the Alt.... beefier as it is or not.

Pulled the negative cable and truck didn't even act like it was affected. Just beautiful. All 80-90 idle amps of it . My winch and future, twin 100 watt off road lights are gonna love me. Might go to autozone and make them tell me exactly how much at idle and 2000 rpm.

Good news on the "Pulled the negative and GROWWWWLLLLLL, SHE ROARS ON!" lol... Ok, you didn't say that, but embellishing wont hurt, right?

I have a few extra goodies, including my 150W- 8" Dick Cepek Halogens.... BUT, I've just not needed to think of this just yet. I will likely be adding 4 more lights, one to each side of Con-Ferr Rack that will be up on top(maybe, instead of 4[1 pointing each direction N,S,E,W] ... 2 on each of the front and back, then 1 each side facing outward... Just have to look into it, as CA State Law is "8 Lights Total, including driving lights/headlights... But I think as long as I keep em covered and some of them are under a certain size... I should be fine/Keeping my eyes open for a CL buy of like 6 Rectangular ones... Would LOVE them to be LED Bulbs, as they use 10X less power ) ..... SOOOOOOOO, in any event, I might "NEED" a lil more juice.... But not having OBA, etc., .. I think 90-110A Direct Swap Alt might be easier for me... As I'm NOT, NO WAY IN HECK FIRE, getting rid of my restored AC System with R12(shhhhhhhhhhhhh! ahahahha). I have that 120A Caddy Alternator you saw... Would be PLENTY, ...but, ... would still have to add the new mounting bracket, etc., etc. ... Yuck, lol. (Jk, ... I don't MIND, just would rather do 'direct bolt up'... as it's tight to begin with, ....as you know).

Good work, bud... Way to persevere!

Like the Terminal.... Is it a Tsunami? They sell those at AutoZone, .... 14.99... but NO Voltage Meters available on the models they carry. I checked, Yesterday.

PS> I know you 'pulled the neg.'.... BUT, I was asking if you'd do a voltage output check at idle with it running solely on the Alternator.

PSS> IF your battery is in question... Just get that out and in to AutoZone(whichever will do a "LOAD TEST" ) .... Even AAA will do that right at your car if you call them and say, "Need a check on my Batteries ability to handle a load... I'm not sure it will get me to Kansas!" lol... Something like that. If a cell is heading to 'toastville'... you need to find that out, now... Otherwise, it'll put unnecessary load on this Alternator, ya know?

Ok well got a few updates. Went to the junkyard this morning, new one isnt open yet so I went to the old one, and got a couple parts. I got a new one of these for my truck:

New one on left and old one on right. Came off a 87 pickup.

Here it is installed. Looks much better. Also painted my air filter cover last week.

Also got this for my brother's 1979 F-350:

He has my grandfather's other truck, I got the Toyota and he got the Ford, and it didn't have a tailgate so for $35 I got it today and I'm gonna sand it up and paint to match his truck and surprise him with it for X-mas. All it needs is a new handle which I can get from LMC.

Finally picked up some cup holders today after spilling my coke pulling in the scrapyard and hitting a nasty bump.

Left one on the passenger door for my wife but I took mine off my side it bugged me driving with it so I did this:

Cut the lip off and reused the existing screw in the console thing and added a washer. Holds pretty well. Its a little ghetto but it works till I find a replacement one with a cup holder built in it. No luck finding one at the junkyard that would fit.

Last week I also painted my grill and yesterday I painted my headlight buckets. I like it a lot better. Looks meaner I think lol.

And last but not least here is a picture of the cs-144 alt finished. Suncomb1 is still helping my fix the charge light but the alt is functional.

Looking like you are making good progress. Got my right alternator bracket and adjuster finished today. Got to get some paint on it before posting in my build thread. Using a CS-130 105 amp alternator.

... thanks. Was curious. My 120A Caddy Alternator(forgot the number, lol).... it read 96% of Original allowance specs.... I wonder, maybe the guy replaced it... cuz it was really clean. BUT, so was the rest of the engine... so it COULD have been original... I just think that the sticker on it will tell me one way or the other.. I just forgot what THAT SAYS, TOO! hahaha. I got lucky at PYP 50% off day on that one... 12$~! hahaha. Glad you've got it squared away.... and good idea to go with the sure thing in this case, buddy!

SEMO=Southeast Missouri I assume lol? There are two salvage yards right now that always have a lot of second gen trucks so sometimes I can get a part off them like the piece for the air intake I got yesterday. Only found two first gens so far, a 79 and an 82. Got the donor bed for my truck off the 82 and the 79 was a total rust bucket. There is another yard opening soon hopefully and I'm hoping that they have some first gens I can get my hands on for a tailgate possibly.

Just got done going thru your thread. Always enjoy seeing a tear down and rebuild. I found this truck for a friend of mine and did the body work and paint on it. Seeing your interior, it was the same as his. Painted it Toyota Super White 040.

WOW that is just like mine! Now I know what it will look like after its all painted and everything. Thanks for sharing that picture

Body work looks good. How hard was it to paint? I have access to a good paint gun but I have only ever used rattle cans.
