81 Toyota with 5" lift, daily driven project.

I just put a 5" lift on my 81 yota and i'am wondering what is the biggest tires I can fit on it? Also i'am planning on regearing, and I don't know what to regear to also. I've had some people tell me 4.10 others 5.29, or 4.56. Being an 81 the truck has stock 3.90 gears. Also to keep in mind, this truck is my daily also so it's also on the freeway, and I don't want to be spinning out a 4000rpm at 70mph.

Thanks for the help in advance, and any other tips would be great, as this is my first build like this. Here is a pic of it, it is currently siting on 32" tires. my lifted yota.jpg

Nice truck! How big do you want to go for tires? (any why for a DD? but that's just personal preference) With a 5 inch lift I think you can fit pretty much any size, especially if you are not wheeling. As for gears well if you go 35'' + I would go 5.29, which should get you back close to what you were stock with the 3.90.

I had 36s and 5.29s and daily drive it and didn't have an issue, at 70 mph I was at 3200, 65 was 2900 or so, don't plan on winning any races or maintaining speed uphills

I am new to toyota and the the 4wheelin world, so what do you mean by DD? I was thinking about running 36s or 37s, and I plan on wheeling it, but also use it as a work truck. And will my stock tie rods be fi fine for that size of tires or will I need to upgrade?

DD means daily driver, if you plan on wheeling it you might have to do a bit of chopping with 36 or 37 because of when you flex, but I can't say for sure since I have not run that size.

My trans is going out and i think it's the L52. Will any other 5speed trans bolt straight up to my 22r?

L52 is your best bet if you don't want to spend extra $$ or move your crossmember

yes, but anything other than an L series if 4" longer and means moving the crossmember back and lengthening the front drive shaft and shortening the rear shift shaft...

gearing- pretty basic 33's = 4.88's, 35's+ = 5.29's.. i daily drive mine with 35's and 5.29's and dual cases, speedo is about dead on accuracy wise..
