maxxis mudders?
I am currently in the market for new tires and would like some input. I am going to be getting 31x10.5's on my '85 4runner. How do the maxxis buckshot compare to the maxxis bighorn? Which is more aggressive? I definitly want a more aggressive mud terrain. I had Firestone destination MT's on a cherokee and loved them. The maxxis look kinda similar except the price.
SO Buckshot vs. Bighorn???????????

a guy on here ( cant remember his screen name ) but his real name is Miles he lives around me and hes got the bighorns. The bighorns have a little more aggressive tread pattern and the tread wraps out on the sidewall a little bit. now for performance you'll have to talk to him about that. but i have had experience with the Maxxis Mudders and they are a good tire for the price. my brother has had 3-4 sets of them on his trucks and he has liked them. but if your looking for a more aggressive tread i would go with the Bighorns.

Well I can only speak to the Maxxis Buckshots. I have them on my old Dodge power ram & they have held up well. The clean fairly well, aren't too loud for me even though they are to some people (they're mud tires *shrugs*) & still have a lot of tread left with 20K miles on them. They did good in rocks too & didn't cut up real bad except in some chert. But if you know anything about chert then you know it can be as sharp as a scalpel when it's busted just right & that'll slice up any tire.

i like mine only had them a month. clean really well, not real load on the road. i drive them like i am on ice...want to see how long they last. in the rain they do ok, here again, i drive them easy, but drive them hard off road.

can't say much about the bighorns, but my buckshots are great tires for the price i paid for them...only $112 each for 265s! they actually balance out great evry 5k miles and have always done great in the slick, red clay and gumbo-type mud we have along the river where we go hunting...so i say the buckshots can't be beat for the price they are...good luck with your choice...

I have a les schwab right across the road from me.. they sell the maxxis big hown and buck shot.... In the last month Ive replaced 4 sets of Maxxis's from them with pro comp mud terrains and a set of x-terrains.. Ive never ran either tire but i can tell you from a 4 wheel drive shop owner stand point that i will never buy a set based upon my customers reviews of the tire and my frequency of repalcing them because in leh mans term "they suck".... Ive been told they turn into racing slicks in the mud, have unpredictable characteristic on wet pavement and have a "wobbly" side wall....

I personally run the Pro comp Mud terrain on my dodge quad cad which i am very impressed with and i have a set of the x terrains going on the runner.. This will be my 4rth set of procomps, I use to only run BFG's and M/T's on my street driven rigs, been converted to the pro comps.. as for trail rigs cant beat the good ole TSL or Bogger...

i had buckshots on my truck for a while. they did ok in the mud. but now i have superswaper ltbs and buckshots dont stand a chance against them. Buckshot are quit and radials. I would choose buckshots if you dont go mudding alot and like to talk on the phone while driving and be able to hear anything lol.
