potential engine swaps 94 pickup

So after aquiring my 94 pickup i've considered doing an engine swap. The V6 seems to be not worthwhile with it's problems and how hard it'll be to swap. No return in investment. Plus it'll drop mpg and not really give me much HP as compensation. My 22RE is a damn good engine but just doesnt cut it. I would like to get out onto the highway. I've heard a few things like gm 350s and vortec 4.3's but I'm an import guy, that's why i have a yota and not a chevy. I'm more conscerned in a 1JZ, 2JZ or pre-90s supra engine. Or even a turbo/supercharged 4cyl if toyota makes one ballsy enough to carry a 4400 lb pickup. Anyone have any ideas? Or seen anything good enough that doesnt require extreme modifications.

3.4 is one of the best ways to go imo. http://toyonlyswaps.com/ and check out the engine swap section on yotatech.

The 3rz, 4 cyl from 95-04 tacoma and in some t100's.
It's a small, lightweight 4 cylinder engine. It makes 150hp and a decent amount of torque.
Check out marlin crawler, he's got A LOT of info on this motor swap.
He says he can pull away from a 22ret, 3vz and 3.4 trucks.
He's got basically the entire wiring plug/pin layout online for this swap.
Simple engine, simple swap, decent power and lightweight.
With any big power/heavy engine swaps, you'll be breaking a lot of the toyota drivetrain.
The 3rz is the way I'm headed. I'll see if I can find a cheap/rusted to nothing donor vehicle that I can perform the swap on first, get all the wiring done right and then I'll swap it into my DD over a weekend.

I'm interested in a diesel swap myself... Maybe a mercedes diesel from an 80's car, or possibly even a mitsu, or isuzu from a box truck...

a 3vz yes a 3.4 nooo... drive one and you will see. the 4 banger is lighter. but a 3.4 starts at 190 hp 220ft lbs of torque. with sc and tuning 300 hp... it can easily pull its weight.

Read marlin crawler's thread on the topic.
If the man says it does, then it does. He's Marlin Crawler.

Stock to stock. No supercharger or turbos on either. The 3rz will pull away from a 3.4 Tacoma, slowly.

"I have raced a Turbo 22R-TE, a 3.0 V6, and a 3.4 V6 up the same steep grade on HWY168 up to Shaver Lake, and I can pull all over the Turbo and the 3.0, and slowly distance myself from the 3.4. Seriously. When you think about it, the 3.4 only has 25% more horsepower than the 2.7, and that's apparently not enough to cover the extra weight of the newer trucks (as my truck only weighs about 3300 lbs).

Definitely isn't a better power to weight ratio with the 2.7 over 3.4. I've driven both and even with an auto the 3.4 put more power to te ground than the 2.7 with a manual.

You could be cool like me and put a turbo on 22RE and bring the electronics up about 2 decades.....

What I do is prolly beyond the scope of what most people on here are capable of anyways.

It is an suggestion though.

If you are starting with a 4cyl truck swapping in a 3.4 v6 isn't as easy as everyone says. the motor mounts are wrong, the tranny is wrong, the fuel lines are different, the power steering hoses from a v6 truck will be needed, etc.

The 3.4 isn't a bad engine at all it's just more common to see that swap when it was a v6 truck from the factory.

I must admit that my 1uz v8 has been awesome so far. It's not the easiest swap in the world but it gets about the same fuel economy as the 4cyl before it and it's got tons of power.
