1UZFE vvti into 2nd Gen 4runner

G'day all, this is my first post on these forums here and aplogies if this is a question already answered / tackled before, my internet speeds are dreadfully slow and it makes searching a nightmare! I currently own a 1992 4runner SR5 automatic with the 3.0 V6, it's my pride and joy but for the past 6 months has been nothing more than a driveway ornament as the engine has reached the end of its life. Rather than go down an expensive and most likely dissapointing engine recondition I have purchased a 1UZFE VVti model from a local Japan Dismantlers company and it will be arriving sometime next week. Whilst this is all exciting it seems there isn't a great deal of information on doing an engine swap using these later model 1UZ's so that's why I'm here.

My plans were to purchase universal 1UZ engine mounts from Venom Custom Fabrications and also use their Plug and Play wiring loom. Any info on the quality of these products would be appreciated. My main problem is the gearbox / transmission. A local automatic specialist said he could make it so I would still use my original 4spd automatic by doing some modifications for it and installing a shift kit however I was strongly advised against this on another Surf/4runner forum and was reccomended to use the original transmission from the 1UZ (here's hoping my engine package comes with one). Any information on how to tackle my gearbox and transmission problems would be greatly appreciated thanks!

This ought to get you started

While I realize your internet is slow, it would serve you well to just wait it out while all the info loads from each thread. Its a lot of hassle to swap in a 1UZ engine

Cheers. Does the information for this apply to me? No idea if the 1st generation 4runner is too similar to my 2nd generation.

It is a lot of work, but an awesome engine. You will want the entire donor car. Expect custom wiring, gauge cluster, mounts for engine/tranny, custom exhuast, and buying parts from another 1UZ (LS400 or SC400) as they both have parts you will want to make it fit in to the truck. Lots of custom work. If you don't have much time at all or quite a few tools then I'd pick a different swap. I suppose if you have money coming out your ears then you can buy all that stuff or pay for it to be done.

Regardless of how cheap the motors are, it is still a spendy swap. The cheapest is to retain the auto that is mated with the v8. I would not go VVTI simply because of the added complications (many). If you get a 94 or earlier motor then it should have the slightly lower compression and stronger rods, so you can boost it with a supercharger later (still expensive).

You don't need to swap the gauge cluster.

Also yes the earlier the better and try to find one without traction control. Also Excessive Manufacturing sell an oil filter relocation plate. Much better than the sc400 or ls400 options. I am about to make an engine mount weld in kit.
