Nicely done.

Red wagon, I was able to get mine to clear without a body lift by cutting out some of the bracing on the inside of the hood.

Oh nice so a 1" BL would work out nicely.

Thanks!

I was also able to avoid doing a body lift, I simply trimmed the supporting metal off the underside of the hood and it closed fine.

Love the paint job.

Thanks for the info. I have a 3" BL from the previous owner I want to drop down to a 1". I won't have to trim the hood supports then if I go through with this option.

Thanks for the info fellas!

Is the power increase quite noticeable? I've never been in or driven a vehicle with that engine.

That's a nice budget on paint that will see pinstripes soon after a repaint.

Honestly I couldn't tell you, I bought the truck with a blown 3vze so anything is an increase in power from that, I can say the swap was a bit tricky, the wiring conversion harness I built for it took a week alone of reading through diagrams every night and double and triple checking all my work before I started soldering anything.

Yeah I saw those photos. I think I'd buy one.

Throw making my own into the too hard box.

Mine is a 92. No idea what engine I'll get yet.

I have 4k saved so far just don't exactly know where or how I'll spend it quite yet. I should be able to put away another 1 or so by the time I can spend it.

Super stoked on this thread! Thanks for posting all your details sas954runner!

I have a 95 Runner that's in killer good shape. My 3VZ still runs awesome, but I'm likely going to do this swap in the coming months. The way I'll probably do it, is to buy a JDM rebuilt 5VZ from an engine importer here in Washington, then scavenge parts from the junk yards. Probably going to buy the OFS crossover pipe, and get them to help me with the wiring harness as well.

The way I see it, the 5VZ engines were designed to give more power to vehicles that weighed as much as 800+ pounds more than the 2nd generation 4Runners. Not only are you putting in a more modern engine with better fuel economy and power, but the vehicle weighs so much less that it should be a serious performance increase.... Then, holy cow, what if you add the TRD Supercharger! Could easily bump the gutless 150hp to over 200hp, and also get a better torque curve... At that point you could even TOW something!

Badass paint job, btw
